  • This is my family tree and I am very proud of my scottish roots which spring from both sides of the family. It has been quite a journey back in time with some pleasant surprises - and some unpleasant - but all part of my past. All the information on this site has been verified by documentation - births, marriages, deaths, testaments, wills and census returns have been downloaded from Scotland's people which has been an invaluable source. Shipping documents have been downloaded from Find my Past. Information regarding later generations has been supplied by immediate family members. James Worthington Aitken Young kindly supplied copies of legal documents with regard to the Young family together with other family records. The 1911 census for England has verified much of this information. Trips to the libraries at Dumfries and Glasgow have turned up other information - including a look at the daily log kept by the school teacher at Templand School in which there are several mentions the 'children from Shaw Cottages'. Parochial records have given an insight into the whys and wherefores of illegitimate births. Along the way there has been contact with both close and extended family members who were unknown until this tree started to grow. It is my hope that future generations will continue to add to it and will feel the same pride in their roots as I do in mine.
