TribalPages members can now customize their homepage by changing its layout and adding custom widgets.
Layout Manager
Choose between the classic layout or the multi-column layout. With the classic layout your homepage flows from top to bottom. The multi-column layout adds a sidebar to the left or right of the main body of your homepage. You can add, remove or configure several custom widgets on your Homepage. To use this feature, login to your site as administrator, click "Home" in the menu, then click the "customize" button.
Widgets
- Photo Slide Show: create a slide show of random photos from any of your photo albums.
- List of Last Names : display all the lastnames in your family tree. If you have too many surnames to display on a page, the system will automatically create a "alpahbetized" index of the lastnames. TribalPages detects important lastnames, highlights them and puts a count of the number of names that share that last name.
- Map : Pick an important ancestor or descendant in your family tree and show where his/her ancestors came from or descendants went to. An appropriate map is displayed and birth/death places are highlighted with markers.
- Favourite Links : Keep a handy list of your favourite places on the web.
- Getting Around Blurb
- About My Website : Write an introduction to your family tree. If you are familiar with HTML you can even add pictures and music to this section.
- Announcement Marquee : Create a scrolling display to announce an event or occassion.
- Upcoming Birthdays : Shows the names of family members whose birthdays are coming up. This list gets updated each day or when you change any information on your site.
- Recent Photos : Displays thumbnails of the most recently uploaded images.
- Stories : Titles of the most recently added stories.
- Top Surnames : List of the most common surnames in your family.
- Recently Added Names : Visitors to your site can check out who has been newly added. As you add new names this list get automatically updated.
You can change the location and position of each widget as well as fine tune it to your specific requirements. Items in most widgets are links to detailed pages within your website. Depending on your security settings some widgets may only be visible after vistors enter your visitor password.
