[The Blackledge Coat Of Arms]-(Example to follow)
Translation and Interpretation:
The Blackledge Coat of Arms consists of a gold dragon, the controller of water in pools; on a blue background, colour of loyalty and truth; the upper part of the shield is divided vertically silver, indicating peace and sincerity, and red, colour of military fortitude and magnanimity; on the silver is a red English helmet of the 14th Century; on the red is a silver leek plant, an emblem of Wales.
The English surname Blackledge is of three distinct origins................
Among the variants of the surname Blackledge are, Blackelache, Blacklache, Blacklock and Blacklidge. The earliest reference to the surname Blackledge or to a variant include a record of one John de Blacklache who is found listed in the Subsidy Rolls if Lancashire in 1332. We also find one Richard Blacklach listed in the journal of the Derbishire Archaeological and Natural History in 1473 while one Evan Blacklidge is found in the rolls of Burguesses at the Guild Merchant of the Borough of Preston in 1662.
