This tree is about my parent's ancestors and the descendants of their grandparents.
(i.e. the families of: Blakely, Wilson, Dean & Stratton.)
I have found the assistance given by the latter group invaluable and they have provided many
interesting stories, much valuable detail and some fascinating photographs, thank you everyone!
When I get more organised they will no doubt begin to appear on this website.
About my Great-Grandfathers:
Although most of the family lived in England, James Hamilton Blakely was born in Bangor, County
Down (Northern Ireland) in 1855, joined the Royal Navy and began a family in Portsmouth. Tom Dean
was born in Dorset in 1854, worked on the local railways as a platelayer and had a large family.
Joseph Wilson (born 1863) was a blacksmith who moved down to Weymouth from Leicestershire although
his family was previously in Belper, Derbyshire. George William Stratton (born 1852) migrated from
Essex via south London and Kent down to Sussex - two of his sons emigrated to America (initially
Detroit, Michigan) and his eldest 'jumped ship' at Katoomba near Sydney in Australia.
I do have a great deal more information about the families of other relatives which is not
(and may never be) on this tree - the sheer volume precludes this at the moment!
- But please contact me if you are interested in seeing it.
If you think you may be related to any of the people in these families then please do contact me, I'd love to hear from you and have your input.
Best Regards - Andy
