The forefathers of the Bowden family were Viking settlers who came to Scotland in the Middle Ages
Spelling variations of the family name include Bowdon, Boulden, Bouldene, Boldan, Boden, Bodden and many more
When they were first found in Cheshire they ere seated from very early times and were granted lands by Duke William of Normandy, their liege Lord, for distinguished assistance at the Battle of Hastings in 1066
Some of the first settlers of this family in America were Ambrose Bowden, who settled in Maine in 1620, Jane Bowden settled in Virginia in 1653, John Bowden settled in Jamaica in 1661, Martha Bowden settled in Barbados in 1664
In between the years 1381-1665 the Bowden Family resided in Bowden Hall just outside Chapel-en-le Frith Derbyshire where there house is still situated ,The occupier of the house today (2009) is grandson of Charlie Roberts, first captain of the world famous Manchester United Football Team, Ted Roberts
Moving on again,the Bowden family of mine have lived in Manchester since the early 1800's having moved from Northwich, Davenham and Great Budsworth ,all in cheshire , where they worked as carpenters,or canal boat people,working the salt miness in the area
