About Booker T. Washington
I have been involved in researching my wife's side of the family, Reasby, which dates back to the early 1800's out of Virginia. I wanted to know if a lady by the name of Verbena Belle Washington has any relation to the Booker T. Washington's so I am researching both Washington's at this time. I have not been able to connect them as of yet, but new information is being discovered all the time. My wife's ancestors, one in particular, the one who married Verbena Belle Washington is the son of William and Sarah James (Sneade) Reasby from Virginia. His name is William Lewis Reasby b. 28 Apr 1889, Albia, Iowa and died in Owen Wisconsin on 08 Apr 1947. His wife's parents were James Henry b. Jan 1867, VA & Isabella (Bronson) Washington b. Feb 1872, VA. James Henry Washington's parent's were Bushrod b. 1830, VA & Harriett A. b. 1843, Va. Washington. Her maiden name is unknown. Bushrod Washington had changed his name from Bullock to Washington sometime between 1870 and 1880. On the 1870 US Census image his last name is Bullock seen in Fluvanna County, Palmyra Township, Virginia with wife and children. Then in 1880 he is seen in Augusta County, Virginia with new last name of Washington. One can only speculate why Bushrod changed his last name from Bullock to Washington.
Booker T. Washington at this time in 1880 was living in Elizabeth City County, Chesapeake, Virginia and his occupation is School Teacher, age 24 born in Va. I shall include all US Census images I have accumilated of Booker T. and his family.
