About Clan Riding
Please sign in to see more.
The purpose here is to try and track the Riding family originating from my great, great, great grandfather Joseph Riding - and explore the relationship of other names that have become entwined by marriage into the ever widening web that forms the "Tribe of Old Joseph"

Eventually it might be possible to go further back than Joseph with the name Riding - there is a record of a John Ridings living in Thurlstone (Nr Penistone) in the 1841 census, aged 70+, who might well be Joseph's father or some relative, but as yet the link has not been found. This old man was a 'linen weaver' - which is traditionally a Lancashire trade, and as Lancashire appears to have far more "Ridings" than does Yorkshire, then who knows where we might have originated. Conversly we do have data on Joseph's wife and her family tree stretches back on the 1500's; all of it most fascinating.

But the name and it's descendants move forward and ever outward as all of the lines expand with time; and we are now spread across the globe.

This site is for each and every one of us who are a part of this "tree" and anyone with something to say will be most welcome to add their notes or stories into these pages, and any old (or new) photographs will be most welcome..

It is hoped also that from this simple data showing the inter-relationships of so many folks, that new aquaintaces and maybe even friendships might arise or be rekindled.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
