Sgt. Reuben Curtis, Source Al Fields Genealogy
Reuben son of Charles and Margery Curtis was born on 28 December 1755 in Virginia.
He married his First Wife Curtis about 1780; probably in Guilford County, North Carolina, near the
Virginia border.
He married second Sarah (Salley) Brewer on 27 October 1802 at Halifax, Virginia.
Reuben provided the surety bond for the marriage of Thomas Marshall and Nancy Brewer, daughter of
William Brewer, in 1809.
Sgt. Reuben Curtis
Enlisted together with three of his brothers, Peter, Bartholomew & Joshua at Guilford County
Courthouse in North Carolina under Captain John Armstrong a short time before Christmas in the year
1775, for the term of one year, and was attached to the second North Carolina regiment on the
Continental line, commanded by Colonel Alexander Martin.
Sgt. Reuben Curtis left a will on 19 October 1819 at Pittsylvania, Virginia; I leave to my
beloved wife all my personal estate during life land and negroes to Sarah Curtis only which is to
pay off my just debts. I want it equal divided between six of my children William Curtis, Elish
Bruer Curtis, Thomas Curtis, Clement Nance Curtis and Susannah Curtis, America Curtis my two
daughters. I then will and bequeath to my son John Curtis five shillings cash and Edmon Curtis four
shillings and Charles Curtis my third son and Reuben Curtis fourth son five shillings cash to them
and also to Nancy Brown five shillings and Sarah Raylon Curtis five shillings.

Congratulations from President and Mrs. Richard M. Nixon were sent Sunday to Mr. and Mrs. W. T.
Saunders of Blue Jay in observation of their 62nd wedding anniversary.
The letter to the couple, from the President stated 'Mrs.J.Nixon joins me in sending warmest
congratulations and best wishes on your wedding anniversary. We wish you many more years of
happiness.
Married May 3, 1909 at Mattsville, the couple has lived in Raleigh and Fayette
County most of there married life and moved to Blue Jay in 1951.
William Saunders is a retired coal miner, having worked in the mines for 42 years, 18 years at
Stotesbury. He is 82 years old and his wife, the former Nancy Leona Daniel, is 78.
