About Denton Frampton Family
Please sign in to see more. I, Rae Frampton the web master of this site began to research my family history in 1972. It was not until I retired from teaching and when my mother Isabella Denton, nee White, gave me letters from her Grandmother Isabella White, nee Mullan, which had been written by her brother William Mullan in 1872-1873 and sent to her while serving in the British Army in India that I seriously began researching. These letters were the last contact Isabella ever had with her brother and her Father, also named William Mullan. My Great Great Grandmother Isabella had immigrated to Auckland. My mother wanted me to discover what had become of her Great Uncle. I was interested to learn about where my family came from and how and why they came to New Zealand. It has been a fascinating journey with many tantalizing questions still to be answered.
All of the information gathered had to be written up by hand and cataloged into folders. (I still like to add my printed copies to these folders.) I joined the NZ Society of Genealogists Inc. and attended meetings in Palmerston North and Auckland Central, gained information from family members, Latter Day Saints libraries, public libraries, the NZ Archives in Auckland and Wellington. At Cambridge, NZ, where the Dentons first settled, I was fortunate to be able to peruse the birth, death and marriage records, free of charge in 1983, and to see the signature or X mark on the records kept at the Post Office. I visited cities, towns and villages in New Zealand, Australia, England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Norway where my ancestors had lived taking great photos as I went. Alan, my husband was a patient companion over the years as we either flew or drove to new places.
I now have my own website, thanks to Tribal Pages and can do much research in my study at home with the help of ancestry.com.au and many other great websites. I am grateful to have had help with my research and give special thanks to the following: My parents and sisters, extended family, especially cousins Anne Addy (nee Barrow) Timothy Long and Joan Marks (nee White). Special thanks to distant cousins John Talbot and Angela Thomas who were researching the Denton families when I met them through the internet. John had been to original sources for information which he willingly shared and he knew the Berkshire region well. Alan and I visited him and his wife Jean at their London home. Angela also had much information which she was willing to share. She lives in Didcot which is only three miles from Harwell, Berkshire where my Grandfather, Charles Richard Denton was born. We visited her and she drove us to see the villages where our families had lived and met other relations. I am also grateful to Dr. Stuart C. Blank, Military Researcher who did extensive research for me in the War Records Archives in London. He sent me copies of William Senior Mullan and William Junior Mullan's Muster Rolls. This information answered many of my questions but not completely satisfied queries about what happened to my Great Grandmother's brother William Mullan after he was discharged from the army.
Genealogy research is never ending.
