This website is about the Grafs who emigrated to Naples from the Maugenhard/Mappach/Holzen/Kandern/Tannenkirch area of southern Germany in the 1800s. Some families kept the Graf spelling and others changed it to Graff. Many stayed in the Naples area and others moved on, notably to the Livonia and Newark areas. There has been little contact between these widespread families since the 1930s. I hope that this website will help change that.
The site lists all the families whom I have identified as descendants (and ancestors) of Johann Jacob Graf (1812-1883)... including the family of Gustav Graf and Cora Fox Graf who moved from Naples to Livonia about 1905 ... and the family of Fred A. Graf and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Elsenheimer Graf who moved to the Newark area in the late 1920s.
I have worked with a researcher in Germany to transcribe and translate church records from the Baden area. The oldest verified record is for Matthias Graf (1685-1750).
Other families came to the Naples area during the 1880s from the same area on the upper Rhine River in Germany. A few came from Switzerland. These families, which intermarried heavily, live on or around what is known locally as Rhine Street (County Road 12) north of Naples. Many are related to the Graf/Graff family.
(To enhance security, names of living persons are not listed in the sitewide search facility and a password is used to restrict access to family members.)
