 About the name Flynn
 Irish: reduced Anglicised form of Gaelic Ó Floinn ‘descendant of Flann’, a by-name meaning  reddish)’ór ‘ruddy’. There were families of this name in various parts of Ireland. The Flynns are the descendants of a number of Irish septs of O'Flynn. The name derives from the  personal name Flann, meaning ruddy. The O'Floinn had twp septs in Co Cork one in the Barony of West  Carbury, and the other in the Barony of East Muskery. Another important sept was located in the  Barony of Castlecreagh in Co Roscommon, near the present day Castlerea. Further septs and branches  were located in Co.Antrim near Lough Neagh between there and the sea. The name is now ranked as the  41st. most numerous name in Ireland. The name is now found widely in Ireland,with the greatest  numbers favouring North Connach and Cork- Waterford region
 Some noted of the name Rev.Jeremiah O'Flynn 1769-1831 was a Franciscan who administered both  Australia and America.Edmund James Flynn was premier of Quebec: Thomas Flynn b.1931 was appointed  Bishop of Achonry in 1976. Padraig Flynn of Castlebar in County Mayo was Minister in a number of  portfolios in the 1980s and was appointed Irelands Commissioner in the E.C in 1993.
