WELCOME to my site. I'm the Editor-In-Chief, Frannie Johnson
These pages now get a lot of hits from other researchers. Please do not use anything from this
site without firstly reading the information below about citations, etc.

When we first started doing these pages way back in the way-backs we were concerned with finding our direct ancestry. Luckily for us we found that much of our direct ancestry was in Scotland and I say lucky because it is wonderfully easy to find Scottish ancestry because of this excellent website, Scotland’s People. Scotland’s People let’s you look directly at original certificates. We soon found that we had ancestral roots to Royalty (Robert the Bruce is, straight down the line my 22g-grandfather). This fortunate fact also made it quickly easy for us to add hundreds and hundreds, if not thousands of ancestors as there tends to be a lot of genealogical information around about Royalty. Through this connection my daughter also traced us back to people such as Merlin. At the time this was all very exciting and interesting and daily we were finding whole new streams of our ancestry and duly started adding them into this tree which started to grow big quite quickly. We are finding cousins in all corners of the planet so keep coming back to stay in touch.

BUT

I (not too) soon was reminded about my original goals regarding my ancestral searching. My immediate family is very fractured due to some recent salient events. My father was in the RAF which most often meant being away from his siblings and their direct families though we did manage to stay in touch with the families of one of his brothers. Though he knew his mother and father he knew extremely little about his father’s family. I am still researching this and have been up a few blind alleys!.

My mother had a tragic childhood and was raised in an orphanage from an early age. She knew her parents and her mother died when she was young; likely the result of a domestic murder. I am still doing further research regarding this and there is a copy of a newspaper article on this site. Her father vanished completely from view (under a cloud) and I am still regularly scouring records hoping to find him or any information about him.

So now I have my two most immediate grandfathers lost in blind alleys!!

Being in the RAF meant much travel. One of my primary goals remains to be finding all of my1st Cousins and this task is indeed not proving to be easy. My parents migrated to Australia as ten pound poms in June, 1969 and we now have a very colourful, large (and even larger extended family) which is fairly cohesive and based around Western Australia. Though several members have spent significant amounts of time living in Queensland and myself I’ve lived in Sydney (where my daughter was born) (two of my sisters lived in Sydney too for a while) and both my brothers have spent time living in Victoria and various nieces and nephews have lived away from WA, currently we are all based in several locations scattered around WA

ANOTHER GOAL remains to be to primarily document the lineage for the benefit of my grand-children and secondarily for my nephews and nieces that are related to FRANK JOHNSON and MARY (CHRIS/TIAN) TOMANY.

To this aim I have now made the following decision; that being to document (as much as is possible) information relating to all their siblings, nieces, nephews, aunties, uncles, great aunties and great uncles (though not all of their children) and any direct lineages relating to grandmothers and grandfathers (via their maternal and paternal lines) as and when I find such information to be available.

REGARDING COLOURFUL AND FAMOUS persons (and I have uncovered several) I will make an exception to the above rule so that my siblings, their children and my grandchildren are able to use the ‘Relationship Tool’ that is available on this site to trace their relationship to them.

ANOTHER EXCEPTION TO THIS RULE regards people with the surname of TOMANY. This is a very unusual surname and it is indeed likely that all the Tomanys around the world are related so I have started recording any genealogical information relating to any Tomany persons as I come across then in any records. If ever I am rich and idle enough I will register this as a SURNAME STUDY. If you have any information relating to anyone with the Tomany surname please do get in touch.

In putting together this site I have attempted to bring the people alive!! History is more than merely a collection of facts. A couple of my favourite quotes that can be applied to genealogy are: "the past keeps changing", and coined by my good friend Paul, "history is not linear – it is circular".

On these pages (besides genealogical information) there are photos, information pertaining to the time and place, plus some stories. To view information about living persons a password is required for viewing. Almost invariably sources have been cited so if you stumble across some that aren’t please get in touch so it can be remedied. Ditto if you find anything inaccurate and/or have further information. From this date, 27th January, 2011 the guidelines stated above apply.

PLEASE DO NOT USE OR TAKE ANY INFORMATION FROM THIS SITE BEFORE READING THE FOLLOWING: Good and sound research involves citing your sources so that other interested people, coming in behind you can re-trace and verify your sources of information. Citing often ensures also that you are not in breach of copyrights too. When citing use as much information as you can: such as folio and page numbers, index titles, and also state from WHERE and WHEN you attained your information. If you are citing index, folio or page numbers only do so if YOU in particular sighted them otherwise cite your source (who listed them) only. When using and citing information that you found on the internet list the internet address AND the date you saw it. Hopefully if and when other researchers come on in behind you those ages will still be there!

When using information from this site please use the following hyperlinked citation; "Genealogical information” sourced from (less than sign/glyph followed immediately by)A HREF="http://www.tribalpages.com/tribes/jaahda" target="_blank">Fran Johnson's Tree, and sourced on INSERT DATE. Like this "Genealogical information” sourced from Fran Johnson's Tree, and sourced on INSERT DATE. ……………………… Thanks !!

And please be sure to sign our GUEST BOOK. If you are in the guestbook I can get in touch with you if and when, in the future I uncover any research that could be of further interest to you.

RE COPYRIGHTS, CITATIONS AND PRIVACY; I've been reading through 'reams' of internet published essays, articles and papers on the above issues, and did consider providing links from here. But instead I decided to make a short statement regarding my views on such matters. Let me preface what I have to say by stating that Tribal Pages who provide for us these pages have a current policy of not publishing data regarding any living persons.

Copyright law, in a nutshell, provides that facts and ideas cannot be copyrighted. There are many sources for obtaining facts, and indeed the facts commonly placed onto pages such as these are fairly limited anyway and come from the public domain.

These pages will all be cited, and sources of information will be provided (using fairly standard APA formatting style) so that future researchers may verify any of our info if they so desire. Please, if you see any mistakes, or would like to suggest additions or corrections please email me. In fact these pages here provide space enough for stories to be assigned to each person, so please feel free to submit interesting info. Of course you will be cited.

Privacy is another 'hoary chestnut'. One of my motivations in starting this site was to find my living relatives. So far we've found thousands of deceased relatives, but not many currently alive ones, and though, as we are finding, many of our deceased relatives led thoroughly fascinating lives, I would still dearly love to find my currently living relatives. Let me reiterate once again that the data contained on these pages comes from the public domain.

I also read much about 'fair use' of information, which is a term that cannot be clearly legally defined. As such certain protocols have tended to evolve around this concept. On our pages here we have accessed many electronic sources of information, and all these are, or will be duly cited. This amounts to the editor's current 'fair use policy'. Genealogy is of nature all about facts, and as much as is possible we will honour the wishes of anyone who furnishes us with information, which we hold in the highest esteem. It is not my intention to offend anyone on these pages, yet before berating me I ask you to consider the issues raised in the following web-published article, presumably written by Paul Lareau, April 30, 2006.

Some Interesting Tales: Here is a selection of interesting stories from this site. Firstly there is Luke Day whose Australian ancestry goes right back to the very first settlers and also to a convict past. If you have the password for viewing alive people you can read about it here.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
