About Trekking Across Georgia
This website started out about Jim and Linda Cox and their family. It covers ancestors as well as descendants. The website has become far more than I envisioned when I began it. It has expanded into a record of many branches of related families. I have recently renamed it to reflect my discovery of the movement of my ancestors west across Georgia as Indian lands were acquired and made available to settlers.

I have gotten enormous help from various relatives who have done most of the hard work in research. The chief contributors are Bobby Dupree, George Dupree, Janie Smith-Harris, Joe Slaton, and Margo McDaniel. Now I need to add Sue Nobles, my second cousin on the Cox side who has added photos, documents and gen info to which I had no access. Another contributor is Glenn Drummond who has accessed documents in Macon County and been a big help.

I need to add Charley Files to the list of contributors. He has supplied a large amount of well researched information for not only the Hardwick side of the family but other branches. The Files Documents Folder came from Charley. Charley is presently writing a book about the Files family and descendants. I am one of those descendants through the Hardwicks.

I would like to dedicate this to my aunt, Sara Emma Cox who did the initial work on the Cox/Hardwick side of things. She was a second mother to me and many other nieces and nephews.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
