About The Leeder and Purkiss Tree
Please sign in to see more.
My twin sister, Jinty, and me, Kim, were both adopted by Sydney and Vera Purkiss in 1953 when we were 11 months old. They had no natural children of their own. This family tree details their parents' families (Leeder & Thunder on Vera's side and Purkiss & Baker on Sydney's side), all of which were large families by today's standards. I have referred to our adoptive family as grandparents, uncles etc throughout this tree wherever appropriate, as we never knew our birth mother or her family.

In addition to adopting us, Sydney and Vera also informally fostered the youngest girl of five brothers and sisters (the Waller family) from a local childrens' home. All three girls lived with them for various periods as they grew up through their teenage years, but the two boys did not. I have included their families and ancestors here as we have always looked upon them as our older sisters.

We have also recently contacted a half-brother born to our natural mother (Peggy Robshaw) before we were born. He was also adopted, but at six years old after our natural mother died suddenly.

Contact (via e-mails) with distant cousins from the Baker family (my grandmother), one branch of which settled in Australia, and I have included much information from them about that branch of the family, for which many thanks to Rex for all his extensive research.

We have also had contact with my mother's uncle's family in Denmark. The Haslund family tree is somewhat complicated, but I think I've got the details correct despite the unfamiliar naming system used, thanks to Niels-Peter for that.

Please contact me if you think you recognise any links to your own family tree.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
