About Derbyshire Born, Derbyshire Bred
I was born in Chesterfield in 1953, and always wanted to be a nurse.....until my Dad told me about bedpans!
I then moved on to wanting to be teacher right through until 'A' Levels, when I discovered (1) I wasn't good enough at my schoolwork to be a teacher and (2) I actually hated schoolkids!
Nevertheless, I still ended up dealing with both bedpans and schoolkids - I spent nearly 30 years as a Radiographer in various hospitals up and down the country.
I am now retired due to a back injury - one of the perks of the job - but have kept myself busy tracing my Family Tree & doing creative writing.
It's amazing how my years as a Radiographer have enabled me to sort out the numerous skeletons in my various cupboards!

N.B Registration Districts

Having access to so many Census records has enabled me to find out exactly where so many of my far distant relatives were born. At the time of this addendum (2020), the last published Censuses are from 1911 - I have everything crossed that the 1921 Census will be published post-2021 (pandemic allowing). In the meantime, any births, marriages and deaths following the 1911 Census have been recorded on this website by Registration District only, as I have no way of knowing at the moment exactly where in the District people were born, married or died. Hopefully, this will be rectified in the coming years.

Acknowledgements

One thing I have completely forgotten to do, and it's extremely remiss of me, is to thank the very many people who have actually contributed to the information I have on this site. Without them, my tree would be significantly smaller than it is, and I would not be counting the number of new "cousins" on my fingers, toes and any spare abacuses which might be passing! I am actually only just getting around to inputting the twigs on some of the branches (Nov. 2006!) and, as I have had some snail-mailed information sitting in my "to do" tray for nearly 3 years, I have lost the names and addresses of those who have been kind enough to photocopy, scan, hand-write and even draw, and then post their hard work out to me.
Once I have worked out just who these people are, I will be putting up their names in lights somewhere - if not on this site, then definitely on my companion site Derbyshire Born, Derbyshire Bred 2. Thank you, everyone!
