About The Martin / Cooper Family Trees
This website contains the family trees of Carl Wentz Martin, Sr. and his wife, Mabel Elizabeth Cooper. The trees go in many, many directions both up and down the trees, and occasionally, sideways. Everything really stems from Carl's parents (Martin & Andrews) and Mabel's parents (Cooper & Brobson).
But first, allow me to distinguish some information concerning this website publication. I acknowledge the thousands of hours spent researching, writing and proofing the ancestory.com site which was used to "feed" this family access site. It is with a sincere and heartfelt recognition that I acknowledge the tremendous amount of time and effort doing research, visiting graveyards, and documenting the Martin family by my loving wife of over thirty years, Vikki. Without her, this simply would have never happened. Her tireless work in proving the lineages so there are no mistakes was astounding. And, she really seemed to love the interweaving puzzle we like to call the Martin and Cooper families. Lucky for us.
For example, anyone related to Mabel Cooper is also related to George Washington, commonly referred to as the father of our country (and our first President). It really takes some digging to see the lineage, though. Also from Mabel's side is the direct link to the official scribe of the Declaration of Independence, Timothy Matlack, Jr. Of additional interest, on Mabel's side, is that the first Cooper in the colonies purchased his land in what is now Camden, NJ, from William Penn directly. It is now known as Cooper Point and Pyne Point. And, the river just north of his land is the Cooper River (still to this day). There is a lot of "Cooper" stuff in the Camden area, such as streets, medical center, etc.
The Martin side is interesting, too, in that it goes back to original roots in Switzerland. Carl has lineage that goes back to one of the original settlers of the Lancaster area (Willow Street, specifically), namely, Hans Herr. Carl's lineage goes back to Hans from two directions, both through his father and through his mother. Back in the early days, I guess that the "pickings" were slim and some of those folks ended up marrying their kinfolk. That's how we ended up being able to get back to Hans Herr through both Wentz Martin and Martha Andrews (Carl's parents).
It is our hope and desire that this site be used as a guide into the past (both good and bad) which can be devoured by current and succeeding generations of Martins, Andrews, Coopers and Brobsons (and their descendents) for the purpose of learning about their “roots”.
Additionally, we will be adding pictures of those ancestors and descendants that we have available to us. Also, we will be adding stories about some of the more interesting characters in our tree.
Lastly, if you see any mistakes, please notify me, including the correct information, and I'll make the appropriate corrections. You can use the link above to notify me, if you wish (where it says "Please click here if you have any comments or feedback."), or you can email me directly [philaray@gmail.com] or call me [(910)262-8291 cell or (910)792-0995 home].
ENJOY !!
