About The Miles Family in Australia
There are many Miles Families in Australia, some of whom may even be descendants of those who arrived with the first fleet (John Miles, a seaman aboard the armed tender HMS Supply and Edward Miles, a convict aboard the transport ship Scarborough).

Our Miles family founders were James and Sarah Miles (nee Wyatt) who arrived in Port Phillip Bay, Victoria from England aboard the barque ‘Lady McNaughten’ (Aka Lady McNaghton) on 23 May 1853 as unassisted passengers.

They were accompanied by their four children; James, John, William Jasper, and Mary Ann.

After their arrival James and Sarah had a further six children, nine of which grew to adulthood.

This Family Tree outlines what is known about their lives in Australia and those known to be direct descendants who today comprise a total of nine generations.

A number of records refer to James being originally from Kent, England. However, no documentary evidence to verify this has been located. His parents are believed to have been William Miles (1792-1866) and Charlotte Skilton (1798-1878) but this is also unconfirmed.

For these reasons this family tree does not attempt to trace the Miles ancestry beyond James and Sarah. More detailed information on the Miles family (including possible ancestors) is available in the Miles family Tree on Ancestry (Private Tree, permission required).

For access to the Ancestry family tree please contact Les Miles, the owner of this website via email at leshmiles@gmail.com.

Special Announcement! A Miles Family Reunion has been arranged for 2017. It will be a 5 night/6 day cruise from Melbourne to Hobart and return. For information contact Les Miles on leshmiles@gmail.com.
