About Taylor-Mitchell
Please sign in to see more.
Two Taylor brothers, Barnett and Isaac, their wives (Katie and Annie), together with their mother Ellen,(who lived to be the oldest women in Scotland at her death-106) immigrated to Scotland in 1905. There probably were other brothers still unknown. Recenty we have been able to add other members of the family going back to the 1850's.. Born in Vitebsk, Russia, they originally settled in Edinburgh moving to Glasgow in 1912(?). The family originated from a small town in Lithuania, Zagare. First settling in the Gorbals area and later to the Queens Park (Battlefield) neighborhood of Glasgow, Scotland. Each brother had 10 children. The original name was Schnider (Schneider?), and was changed to Taylor upon arrival in Scotland. Isaac was listed as a 'master' tailor. The families of their two sisters, Frieda and Malke, have not yet been discovered.
While the majority of Taylor's still live in the Glasgow area, the family can be found also in England, Canada , Israel and the United States.

The Mitchell family originated in Glasgow, from Morris Mitchell and Fanny Jordan. The original name was Michelman and my grandfather emigrated from the Ukraine some time around 1900. The Jordan family came from Talsen in today Latvia, but then Courland. Not very much is known about the Michelman family. Mary ( Marianne ) Jordan arrived in Scotland sometime around 1900. She and her daughters appear in the census of 1901 as living in Paisley, Scotland. Mary's maiden name was Thalberg. The rest of the Jordans apparently immigrated around the same time or earlier to the US. They have a huge family tree which has been organized by Alan Jordan, one of the descendants of a brother of David Jordan, Mary's father. Some of the Mary's family immigrated to Australia and others to the US.
