This website is dedicated to the memory of the two women who introduced me to genealogy in the early 1970's:
my grandmother Alice Clyde Brackin Whigham and her niece Mary Alice Thompson Grubbs
who showed me my first family group sheets and census reports. Without the benefit of the Internet, Mary Alice
compiled a vast amount of information the old-fashioned way.

I certainly cannot take credit for all the research reflected here.  I've had help from close as well as distant relatives,
and I thank all of them.  A special thank you goes to my dear husband Bob Dean who has been incredibly
supportive and encouraging, not to mention patient and tolerant, while I have spent countless hours in pursuit of
ancestors and living relatives.

This work must be considered a work in progress, even a draft. This compilation contains both documented and 
undocumented listings. I am confident that there are errors and omissions, and I hope that you will contact me with
corrections and additions. Apparently compatibility issues with my database prevent all of the information that I have
for individuals from being displayed. Often, you will see only one census report when, in fact, I have more. Please feel
free to contact me for more information.

The families that I am actively researching were located in the southeastern United States: Beard, Brackin, Clements, Daniel, Dowling, Etheredge, Fountain, Hannah, Helms, Johnson, Jones, Knight, Kiser/Kyser/Kaiser, McKinnon, Thomas, Whigham, Zitterouer/Zitterow.
