I first started researching my family history in the 1970's and was lucky that my  paternal grandmother had quite a large collection of old family photographs which she  enjoyed looking through with me and was able to name a great many of them, although I  will forever wish that I knew the names of the older ones which she could not  remember.

There was also a Family Bible which belonged to my Gr Grandfather and in it were the  names and dates of birth of his children and a few death names and dates, so this was  an excellent start for my research.  There then followed many enjoyable days  searching cemetaries for gravestones, followed by a visit to the Bawdeswell Parson to  ask his permission to look at the parish registers.... he actually brought them round  to my house (which was next door to the church) and allowed me to keep them for a  couple of days while I looked through them!!! Nowadays all of my research is done on  the internet as I no longer live in the UK.

My branch of the Elsdens seem to have all been born in and around Bawdeswell in  Norfolk, there are other Elsdens in Norfolk and Cambridgeshire but as yet I have not   found any link.
