About The Princes of North America
Please sign in to see more.
One day, shortly after reading Alex Haley's book, Roots, I sat down with my grandmother, Idella Alford, and began compiling the names of our ancestors. My grandmother was the great grand-daughter of a former slave woman, Dinah Prince. Dinah told Grandma Della many things about our family. I wanted us to continue to seek each other out and learn more about one another. Grandma Della deserves the credit for being such a good oral historian. A true Griot (one who passes on family and tribal history orally). Grand-mother, Idella, has since died, as have my mother, Rosetta, and most of the elders in the family. Let's give a shout out to those among us who are now the "elders". Give them your love and utmost respect. Let's work together to preserve our family history for the next generations. We do this out of love and respect for our struggling forebearers and for our descendants who are coming behind us.
I have discovered that the Prince family broke up into three major families; The Prince/Prince family (from Rubin Julius Prince) The Prince/Alford family from Idella Prince (Alford), and the Prince/Hutchison family, from Oscar Hutchison, Idella's brother. Family members we did the DNA study of our Matrilineal line and found " We are from CAMEROON, Tribe of TIKAR". Our other roots are Benin, Mali, England Wales & NW Europe, Ivory Coast/Ghana, Norway, Ireland and Scotland, Baltic States, Native American, Germanic Europe, Sweden, Eastern Africa. We are truly international if not always by choice.
A recent finding was a DNA match with a person whose ancestry meshes with ours. This individual traces his ancestry back to the African Prince among slaves, Abdullah Rahman Ibn Sori. Please read his story here on PBS:
