The original Thalmann name has two 'n's'. My dad, Edwin Thalman, decided that he liked it better with only one 'n' so that is why you will see my name and my descendants are using the name Thalman, spelled with one 'n'.
The name "Thal" means "valley" and "mann" means man in the German language. Whether this name was received because they lived in a valley we cannot be sure, but more then likely, this is where it probaly came from.
These first Thalmann's settled in a rich lowland country which is Northwestern Germany, the province of Hannover, the village of Wechold. Wechold is on the Weser River, 15 miles southwest of Bremen and 40 miles northwest of the city of Hannover. The city of Verden is across the river on the east side.
