We have been able to trace the Nolff,Nolf,Nolph,Nulf,Nulph line back to Hans Nolff b.1536 in 

Grossgartach,Wuerttemberg,Germany.We made a trip to Germany in September 2000 

to see where they lived.It is in a lush green valley full of farms and 

vineyards about midway between Frankfurt and Stuttgart.We got to visit the 

Schluctern Lutheran Church where they worshipped and see the Church records 

written in the old original German script. 
 Our immigrant ancestor was 

Laurentius (Lorenz) Nolff.He came to the USA on the `Charming Nancy`with his 

wife,Anna Maria Werner,and daughters,Anna Maria and Maria Margaretha.They were 

enumerated on 8 October 1737 at Philadelphia where they originally settled.They 

moved to Heidelberg Twp,Northampton Co. where Lorenz purchased 200 acres of 

land.
His great grandson,Henry (Gum) Nolf,started the westward migration 

when he ran away from home at about 15 years of age,with two of his friends and 

ended up in Armstrong County.Pa. Where they made friends with the indians in 

the area and went hunting and fishing with them.Gum built the first sawmill as 

well as a grist mill in the area that was to become Gumtown.This village was to 

later become New Bethlehem.
 Gum`s father,Henry Nolf,and his 

grandfather,Casper Nolf,followed him to the area with their families.  Casper 

had 18 children but only 9 have been documented.Henry Sr.had 7 children and Gum 

had 9 children.  From there the family has spread over the USA.I have 

discovered Nolf`s in practically every state in the union.  I have also 

discovered Nolf`s in Belgium,France and Argentina.I have been told there are 

Nolf`s in Australia but have not yet had a chance to check it out 
    There 

is a lot of misinformation floating around on the internet and I would like to 

use this site as a clearing house for correcting some of the errors and 

documenting some of the questions that have been unanswered.

Does anyone have any information on Reuben Nolf b.1809 in Nazareth 

Twp.,Northampton Co.,Pa ? He married Elizabeth Heckman 8 Feb 1830 in the First 

Reformed Church,Northampton Co.,Pa - b.1803 in Northampton Co.,Pa.

They had the following children:

1.Stephen b.1831 in Pa

2.Lydia b.1833 in Pa

3.Anna S. b.1835 in Pa

4.William H. b.1837 in Pa

5.Rufina C. b.1841 in Pa

6.Elizabeth C. b.1844 in Pa.
