About The Dejnozkas
Welcome to our family website.
This compilation is for the expressed purpose of documenting the genealogy of Dejnožka family and relatives. It is hoped this work will serve as a starting place for any future researcher. The compiler and contributors are amateurs, not professional researchers. This work began using information originally gathered by my cousin and major co-compiler, Jan Dejnožka. Jan conducted research by personal interview with many family members and first compiled in a family tree in 1980. This was later revised to include a total of 684 names, and copies distributed to family members. I converted the typed family tree to Word format, and then conducted additional research using on-line genealogy, government, public, private, and social networking sites to expand the research and include citations. In addition, many family members have contributed directly to the information and photographs contained within.
In FEB 2010, I committed to entering all known family member data to an on-line genealogy service database at Tribalpages.com (more precisely www.thedejnozkas.tribalpages.com). In so doing further research, editing and collecting of names, dates and facts was conducted. The use of the website greatly facilitated the entry and organization of newly identified family members and proved an effective platform upon which to compile this work into book format. The role of the Internet cannot be understated. It proved essential in finding and contacting other family members as well as previously unknown individuals. It offered a means to validate names, birth dates, deaths and other pertinent facts against available public records (U.S. census records, immigration records, naturalization records, social security records, ship passenger and crew manifests, military records, cemetery records, voting registration as well as state marriage records, newspaper and funeral home obituaries, and much more). An abundant amount of data was collected through memberships at the genealogy websites Tribalpages.com, Ancestry.com and its companion site, Webroot.com where many of the above records could be found, and access family tree records compiled by other researchers led to newly discovered relatives and citations. Though a great effort was taken to source and validate the entries included, in many instances the entries are taken as reported by living family member’s personal knowledge. In many instances family lines are incomplete or data is missing (e.g., birth dates or complete names). Data (e.g., name spellings, dates) collected from public sites, such as cemetery gravestones, might conflict with other sources. In those instances I assigned the entry based on the greater weight of evidence. Frequently the discrepancy is noted in the text. In several instances, the extensive genealogy of relatives required the creation of separate volumes of their branch in the family tree. These are referenced within the body of this compilation and interested parties should refer to the broad content contained within those volumes. At the time of this writing, there are 2,639 family relatives on the extended tree. Undoubtedly there will be information known to family members that will not be included in this edition. Perhaps by sharing this document, it will serve as an inspiration to a future researcher who will then be able to build upon this work and share it with others. This is my hope.
29 Nov 2019: Information has been updated and published (2019) in a book titled Dejnožka - Vlk, Descendants and Allied Families. Another compilation of Dejnožka family members within the Czech Republic (titled: Travná čp. 10, DEJNOŽKOV (FAMILY DEJNOŽKA) by Ivan JANOVSKÝ), has been translated and prepared for publication by Malcolm Dejnozka. It will be ready for publication in Dec. 2019 or Jan. 2020. Together, these two books will comprise the most comprehensive history of the Dejnožka family ever likely to be composed.
