Take your time and look at the many individual pictures and the many, many names. Maybe you will find out something old or new! Who knows ... our family branches may cross somewhere! You don't have to send a message thru this site but use my personal email address to contact me which I have listed above. Any family information is GREATLY needed and I would eternally be grateful to you!!!! We need to work together to share and store this wonderful information. ** SOMETHING OF WHO WE ARE ** My name is Timothy Ezell. I am very proud of my name, for it goes back to the very beginning of the 'Ezell' family in the United States. I was born in Alabama and lived there until I was thirteen years old. Then my family moved to North Carolina. I worked for the North Carolina Department of Public Safety/Adult Prisons & I was in Law Enforcement before that as a Policeman for thirteen years. I retired from both in 2021 after serving proudly for 31 years! My wonderful son - River Lennon Ezell - is the GREATEST, AMAZING, LOVE in my life! ** EZELL FAMILY NAME HISTORY ** There are variant spellings to the name: Uzzelle, Uzzle, Uzzel, Oisel, Ezzell, Ezzelle, Ezel, Essell, Easwell, Ezzall, Ezall, Issul, Izard, Usel, Usselle, Sills, and perhaps Youell, or Gills. Let's take the name "Uzzell" and "Ezell" for instance. Everyone from this line of family may have distinctive appearances perhaps heavy eyelids and rusty eyebrows, blue eyes and a touch of red hair. They were originally French Huguenots. During the persecution they dispersed to Holland and England where they remained for many years. The ruins of an old Castle Uzzell in the valley of Aosta proclaimed one family prominent in the 13th Century. The earliest note of the name is found at Angers, France. Civic Archives show an abstract that Jean Ozzelle owned a measure of land in 1254 A.D. Family Preachers point out many Bible references, notably "Uzziel" in 1st Chron., Ezek., and Exodus, always quick to say they were Levites. The oldest of the four different known "Uzzell" coat-of-arms shows three coins. They are believed to be a Crusading Emblem. Crusader means (The Crusaders of the Middle Ages fought to win the Holy War from the Moslems, Crusade means any one of the Christian Military expeditions between the years 1069 to 1272 A.D.) When the Crusaders journeyed to Palestine, they were forced to cross Europe to Asia at the Straits of the Dardanelles. These Straits were guarded by people who claimed to be Christains. Supposedly they could add the crossing Crusaders. They not only charged the Crusaders for the crossing, but imposed a crossing tax as well. The name "Uzzell" derived from the old French term ""Oisel" meaning "bird". It is a shortened version of theb "Ozelleure" and "Ousellere" meaning "seller of game or poultry". Let's now take the name "Ezell" for instance. They may be tall in size with large hands and having black hair. Let's not forget that when and as time goes on other family lines can add other appreances also to the line. I believe that Timothy Isaal Ezell was born/from Ezalle, France. There is such a place originaly spelled "Yssyll" then spelled "Issell". It is near the Pyrenes in Southern France! ** SPECIAL THANKS AREA ** I would like to give a really big 'THANK YOU' to the following people for assisting me with their family information (names & pictures) to help add as many branches to this tree as possible: ** Mr. Mark Ezell - Orange Park, Florida ** ** Mr. Don Crutchfield ** ** John T. You are the "BEST". * SPECIAL THANKS * To my family for the love, support, pictures and many memories shared! A big "HUG" to Bonita, Paul, Jimmy, Dad & of course my sweet Mother who is in heaven! * This Web-Site is comprised of names, dates, and pictures that I have been able to gather over several years and through researching for them. Some of the dates and spelling of names may be different from yours, and others out there in 'cyber-space'. That is O.K. - for time has a way of playing games with peoples minds, old records that are not readable anymore, and there is always the chance that information can be incorrect (not intentionally - but due to the vast amount of information out there). I have complied a list that I am proud of and as always - if anthing is incorrect - or off a few years - I am only HUMAN. ** IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADD YOUR FAMILIES INFORMATION TO MINE - JUST EMAIL ME WITH THE NAMES AND DATES (INCLUDING ANY AND ALL FAMILY PICTURES TO GO WITH THE NAMES) AND I WILL BE THRILLED TO ADD THEM AND GIVE YOU CREDIT ABOVE! ** Old Ezell Documents ** There are several copies of old documents on the Ezell's (i.e., US Federal Census, Land Patents, Tithables, etc.) in the Photo Index Section! Be sure and check them out!!!
