About  The Townsend Family
Please sign in to see more.
Our unique family heritage is what professional researchers call "clues to our past." Properly collected and pieced together, these clues can unlock the most interesting adventures that we can ever experience. These clues learned from other members of our families can teach us the stories of our origin.

Who were the people that gave us our family names? Where did the names come from? What part of the world did they come from? How long were they there? Where did they go? Why did they leave? What relationship are they to my family and me?

Most of us are curious but never get involved. We say not enough time, too much work, We wouldn't know where to start. etc.

A "work in progress",this web site is an attempt to make it easier for The Townsend families and possibly other individuals or families to begin to research by supplying basic information.

This begins with my Grand children and progresses through to the first person to take on the Townsend name, Lodovic de Townshende, during the eleventh century.

The Ancestral name Townsend is an "English place name" and can be spelled in various ways: the most common is Townsend; you might see it as Townshend,Tunneshende, Townshende,Townson,Townsil and the much older,atte-Towns-end which means of course, living at the place where the town ends.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
