About Frees/Sommers - Past and Present
Please sign in to see more.
Welcome to the family website of ancestors and descendents of Leonard Joseph Frees and Shirley Ann Sommers. Please send me any additions, corrections, or other info you would like to have included! I have recently upgraded the site so we have more room for photos and other information.

Some of the surnames on this site have several spellings. FREES was originally FRIES. SOMMERS is often found as SOMERS, SUMMERS and also those variations without the 'S'. STRUBEL is also found as STRUBLE. BARTOSH is also found as BARTOS and BARTOSOVA.

I have tried to make sure that all living family members do not have their birth dates listed on this site. Although the site is passworded, someone could give out that information. If you find that I birth date info displayed for a living person; please let me know ASAP!

A quick way into this page is to click on the "PEOPLE" tab at the top of the page. There is a SEARCH option there. A very interesting option there is the 'RELATIONSHIP TOOL'.

This 'Relationship' option is unique in that you get two drop down menus, each containing everyone's name on the site. When you select two different names, the program will show you how they are related!

In the paragraph BELOW titled 'GETTING AROUND' you will find explanation of the 3 different ways to view the information stored here. Further down the page is also a listing of all the Surnames (Last names) in the database. Just click on the beginning letter.

My sincere thanks go to all the help and information I have been able to obtain from some distant relatives who have spent years working on these family lines. A few of the contributors are:

**Babe (Ione) BARNES CROW research that I inherited.
**Mark Cappello, a cousin who had been working with Babe CROW on the BARNES line before she died. **Michelle Cory for her help with the NAPIER line.
**Andrea Romyn has provided me with photos and information about the FREES' and BIRELINE's. **Dana Michael has contributed greatly with information and photos about the STRUBEL family. **Dr. James Sommers of Des Moines, IA for photos of the SOMMERS family.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
