I began the search for my roots in 1983. My sister, Lillian (Zevik) Jolliffe joined the research in 1990-1991. Our parents are Prokop Zevik, (Zewick, Zywyk) and Olga (Ella) Woznick, (Woznuk, Wozniak) .
Lillian has visited relatives in many states to obtain family history information, dated photographs of our relatives from many years ago and helpful hints to other items. She also made trips to court houses and State and National Archives gathering copies of many official documents relating to the lives of our ancestors.
This website is intended to share what we have accumulated and to display it in an accessible manner for all those who may have an interest such as ours. It is still in the early stages of entry and will always be "Under Construction" . Please check back often and/or contact us with your thoughts, suggestions and hopefully, more items to share. Also, please call any entry typo's to our attemtion. This site has many features, reading the "Getting Around" section below will help you to use them.
When looking for names of female relatives, it is important to know that the accepted standard is to list females by their maiden name. This is the name that indicates their genealogy (the family whose genes they carry). Also, it remains the same no matter how many marriages they have.
"Echoing Trails-Billings County History" and Billings County Historical Society, Medora, North Dakota have supplied a wealth of information and copies. Our genealogy search has turned into a Family Tree/Diary. It is our attempt to assemble a systematic history record of events in the order of time from cradle to grave. Copies , or original documents, we search for are citizenship papers, homestead papers, marriage certificates, school records, graduation diplomas, achievement certificates, dated pictures with names, obituaries, memoriam notices, death certificates and pictures of cemeteries and grave markers.
Our efforts have led us to a researcher in Ukraine. From him, we have received 91 images from a historical archive . One of these items is an 1828 map of Boryszkowce (Boryshkivtsi) showing home numbers for the Vozniaks (Wozniaks) residences. These maps list many names we recognize as persons who emigrated to America. Copies of these maps have been donated to The Ukrainian Cultural Institute in Dickinson, North Dakota, for display. Our researcher has traveled to the country of Moldova (Romania)to research the Zevik (Zywyk, Zhyvyk) family. The information, which continues to arrive, is being readied for entry.
If anyone can share copies of documents or pictures for our project with my sister or me, it would be greatly appreciated. By the same token, if someone requests information that we may have, we would certainly share it with them.
