Our research of the John Lockhart family originates in Ballyduggan, Knocknamuckley, Armagh, Ireland. Most of the children immigrated to Canada in the early 1850`s settling in Stanley Township, Huron County, Ontario. As Bruce County to the immediate north opened up for settlement, the Lockhart families homesteaded in Kinloss Township, Bruce County, Ontario. Many stayed in this area, but the 1870`s saw a move west to the Dakota Territories and beyond by many families, our own included. Subsequent generations of these families are found in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and many of the US states. A very prolific family, the descendants number into the thousands.
