When I first started this it seemed like such a great idea... my mom's father's family, my mom's mother's family, and my dad's family in three separate Tribal page websites. After years of long hours, I now see should have combined them all. Now I want to do that and have one really nice PAID Tribal website. Question is HOW do it do it (combine them). Man, I sure wish I'd thought of this before. Is there an easy way to transfer the info that overlaps? That GEDCOM stuff is over my head. Please help!

You are not alone, as I also agree that GEDCOM is over my head as well. I have several TribalPages sites and I am in the middle taking all of the names, dates and info off of every site and putting them all onto one site. It's alot of work, but it will be much easier to keep track of everything on one site. I listed ONLY the names of my great-grandparents and that means over 6,000 of them, but it's a labor of love and something I enjoy doing very much. I wish you all the best, Lady Shirley

Gedcom is nothing complicated, merely a common format that is used to transfer trees between different software programmes. Think of it like an adapter that enables you to plug your UK plug into a French socket in your holiday home in France.

I have checked on Ancestry where I also have several tree's and you cannot combine them on their site either. However you can on their software package, 'Family Tree Maker'. You may be able to do it on other software packages as well (like Roots etc) but I only know FTM. So you could download each of your trees to a version of FTM on your home computer (it's the Backup process in TP). If you haven't got FTM, maybe someone you know can lend you a copy. Then link them in FTM on your computer, (I have the instructions if you want them but they are in the Help section of FTM) then upload as a brand new tree onto Tribal pages.

...OR, you can type everything in again.

Bonne chance!

Easy - then I just cleaned it up and reloaded the combined three files to Tribalpages

I am soooo glad I saw your message. . . .I'm just getting started and I was trying to decide if I should make separate pages for the different families. After reading your info I will now just do one giant tree and I think it will make my family tree journey much easier. . . .THANK YOU ! ! ! ! !

I am having the same problem. I started off separating my mother's family from my dad's family. I know it i a dumb idea now, but when you are learning you don't realize it when you do something so dumb. If anybody knows of a way to easily combine the two sites without having to individually move each entry over, please contact me. Thank you for your time in reading this message.

I was going to combine my Tribal Pages family trees by using Roots Magic, as suggested on the TP technical forum. Notes were imported, but unfortunately, things like stories and photos were missing once I imported the Gedcom into RootsMagic. Beware!

I really hope TribalPages adds a merge feature. So many of us started with separate trees but later decide to merge them for ease of maintenance, etc.
