I also have a family genealogy on Ancestry.com which is much more extensive than the one I have here at Tribalpages. I would like create a GEDCOM file from Ancestry and download it to Tribal. I realize it will delete all I have on Tribal. I plan on downloading a GEDCOM from Tribal as a backup in case of any problems.
Has anyone tried this and what were your results?
If you are happy, and you wish to overwrite your Tree, then you can, by uploading again.
All the best
And wishing you and yours A HAPPY NEW YEAR

Will this large amount of data cause a problem?
All the best

As you say . It is a NEW GEDCOM
Les
Les has made an excellent suggestion for someone attempting this for the first time. Try it out on a new free site and you will then know, first hand, exactly what applies. Start a new free site and load, the gedcom for your existing Tribalpages tree. Then replace it with your Ancestry gedcom. If you are concerned about photo's, put a few photo's in the new free site and see what happens. You can delete the new free site later if you wish.
Happy new Year to You and Yours .
All the best for 2015

We wish you both a very happy New Year. (it will be 2015 in 28 minutes here in New Zealand)

Robert - I load a new gedcom of around 20,000 about once a month and have done so for the last ten years - it is very straight forward. Pictures, the Story section and the home page are not affected.
HOwever- gedcoms from ancestry sometimes have problems because of special non- standard gedcom tabs that Ancestry uses. Les's suggestion here is very good as it would allow to see where ANcestry had put in their special markers. A standard gedcom DOES NOT include pictures or attached documents - those will not import to tribal pages.
Reminder - backup your present tree so if you make a mistake - TP can restore it to the recent version.
When I uploaded the GEDCOM file 3 years ago to TP, I generated it from my workhorse (FTM) Family Tree Maker software, an old DOS version. Call me archaic but I still use that version to maintain my database of about 30,000 names. I find it easy, fast and convenient.
Since my TP site is bare-bones, just names, year dates, and a few pictures, I have to strip off all the notes, references, etc from my FTM database during the GEDCOM generation.
Soon after my initial upload (at that time, I had about 23,000 names), I did upload newer GEDCOM versions once or twice and indeed there was no problem, but TP told me to wait a day or so before the new data would show (apparently due to the file size). However, I noticed that the names would often be mixed up, i.e., a nick name would appear as a middle name, etc, which I had to laboriously correct in TP. Apparently, this is what Marie mentioned about different markers.
So I don't upload any updated GEDCOM file anymore. For any new entry into my FTM file, I also duplicate it manually into TP. I don't even retype the name, just copy, cut and paste, and I can do it very fast.
Interestingly, I use a slightly newer version of FTM to generate a static, downloadable/printable PDF file of selected family trees. For those interested, follow link below, and click on any family tree.

I find the format much better than TP's view/reports/decendant-report-7-generations, which I suppose is the closest equivalent.
Happy New Year to all.

I loaded the GEDCOM the other day and been working on it ever since.
Lost all 'notes' I had here and still in the process of trying to put them back.
Lost a few people I had here but gained a lot I didn't.
Biggest job has been copying pictures from Ancestry over to Tribalpages. Just finished that.
Now I'm trying to connect these 'new' pictures to the people here.
Good thing I'm retired or I'd be at this for years.
Thanks again guys.
