Notes being truncated/lost

I keep running foul of what appears to be a serious bug in TP's interface.

There is no particular pattern to when the problem arises, but FREQUENTLY I find that after doing a simple update on a record, most of the notes disappear. I have started checking them before I apply any changes and they are okay. Then, once I have made an update (today, I simply added a new Baptism source citation) and click Save, the notes have all but disappeared (simply truncated, at any point). It is not a problem associated with any person who might have close to the 8000 word limit (although those with long notes presents a major problem when I have to re-type them all). It can happen with a record that only contains a few sentences of notes. Whether the notes contain HTML formatting or not doesn't seem to be a guide.

This is such a serious problem for me as I have copious amounts of notes in the file. To have to continually re-create them is a major headache - to the extent that if the problem is not fixed, it is unlikely I will continue as a TP customer once my renewal comes around.

Anyone else experiencing anything similar?

Ian Marr

Good Morning Ian from a Sunny Wales.

Nothing concrete, but in my old memory, I believe a Member had this happen and I suggested cleaning their Cache, and it worked.

Maybe more by luck than judgement.

Give it a try.

If not another Member may have the solution.

I make a point of cleaning my PC everytime I intend closing.

All the best

Thanks Les,

I have been involved with computers long enough to know that sometimes the unexpected solutions can work.

I will give it a try (too many whiskeys tonight tend to indicate I should do it tomorrow)

Will let you know.

Hi Ian, just had a look at your site, and it seems as if you have your TABLES set at

<table cols="6" width="100%" border="0">

This for viewing is showing the SCREEN SHOT below.

Have reduced this SCREEN SHOT to show 20% to let you see your HOME PAGE unbalaced, and for me to get your whole page in, as if it is increased to show correctl, you have to use the bottom scroll bar, as most of your page is over to the right.

Thought that I would mention it as you may not have noticed it.

All the best

Hi Ian had a spare 10 minutes and looked at your site. I adjusted the four

<table cols="6" width="100%" border="0"> 3 of

<table cols="2" width="100%" border="0"> 1 of

to 28%

this looks more balanced and you can see all your TEXT and Photographs together instead of having to scroll for ever to the Right to read or see one part.

SEE SCREEN SHOT This is not full size

Obviously I have not altered or attempted to alter your site.

Thanks Les,

Unfortunately it is not as simple as adjusting the table percentage. When I was setting up my home page, I had all sorts of problems getting the look, particularly the width, just right. I found that different browsers, monitors, graphics settings, etc. all gave varying results - what was "just right" on one would look terrible on another. So, I settled on the 100% as that seemed to be the most consistent.

On occasions I have even found that I can access my home page one day and it's fine, but the next time I can get what you obviously see - extensive horizontal scrolling needed to view the page.

BTW, your 28% option comes up as virtually unworkable on my set-up - the table occupies only about 10-15% of the horizontal real-estate available.

I use two monitors - the main one at 1600x900 and the secondary one at 1280x800. My browser is IE11.

Hi Ian, tried those settings and still get the same . One continual horizontal look. Should not vary day to day .

All the best

Hi Ian, I did not expect you to try at 28% as this was only applicable to my Screen Resolution. I did this to show your Home Page as it should be, completely balanced to the whole, and readable. I mostly use Pixels, and the one that matches up to 28% is 650, and Tribal Pages uses 980

The 100% for all ,will mean that your Home Page cannot be viewed with the Text as you mean it, in its separate sentences and LINKS in the proper columns. These just end up with one continual line of Text, and you lose interest.

You should do your Home Page to suit yourself and settings, and we will all see it looking balanced,as you mean it to be seen, but in different resolutions, instead of the whole of it spread across the page, and having to use the bottom scroll, trying to read a very very long sentence.

This is the trouble of using Tables, and it is easier to try them in a STORY page first to see what they look like.

My opinion is for what it is worth, I like it, and you have put some work into it, with a few LINKS -Photographs and Marquees

.

Please take the above as a compliment to your work, and of the interest that I have shown

Les
