Hi all,

did anybody ever had the chance to successfully raise an issue with the support team. I tried to get in contact for months but only received an answer once apologizing that they "dropped the ball". Nothing ever again ....

Regards,

Claus

Thanks Alan for the clear answer.

Just analysed your homepage and noticed you have the same problem and your page too is blocked by robots.txt.

However, I will keep trying to contact the 'invisible' support team ...

Hi Claus,

What browser are you running. There has been a difference with some. TP support would want to know, I think.

I have looked at your site and I can view it no problem what-so-ever. I have noticed however, that all the text is centered. Did you intend it to be like that. If not have a read of my reply to a group of messages started by Les about two days ago.

Re:CENTRE wth ALAN SITE - Alan Scott Apr 23, 4:59 PM

Incidentally, I started corresponding with Tribalpages Support direct and not through forum on this sujecect and I did get replies so I can assure that someone was there last week.

Hi Alan,

indeed I have been in contact directly with TP support directly by email. I have been writing dozens of email in the meantime but only once received an answer:

"Sorry for dropping the ball on this. We are looking into the issue. Our developers suspect it may be the robots.txt for your website that is causing this problem. It is not something you can fix, but we should be able to."

Since then, I have never received an answer again on any of my emails.

I have been digging around a bit since then and just experimentally opened more tribalpages which seem to have the same problem. I analysed your page and it occurs that yours is blocked by robots.txt as well. Check yourself, do an analysis on Quicksprout.com.

In short words, if a page is blocked by robots.txt it will not be found on search engines which is not what I want. If someone researchs the same family name I'd appreciate to be found ...

Regards,

Claus

I have viewed my site using Windows 8.1 IE 11, Firefox, Fastpeak Slimjet, Chrome, Windows XP IE8. and can view satisfactorily. I have also asked a number of people how they view my tree and you are the first to say it is blocked.

Just had another look at your home page and it is no longer centered but there is something missing as you can see from what I have copied and pasted below.

belonging to the "Hofkastenamt", collecting and administrating the revenue of the territorial lord.

Tribalpages Support - I hope that you are taking notice of this.

Yep, indeed there was something missing. Fixed it just now ...

From the 'viewing point' my site is fine and can be viewed perfectly from every browser that I tried.

The thing with robots.txt is that a site is crawled by Google's bots and spiders to validate its content and therefor rank accordingly on a Google search. Robots.txt blocks the access for their bots and spiders so they can not read a website and that's the reason it does not rank on a Google search.

I am very happy with all services of tribalpages and it's by far the best what I found, easy to navigate, reasonable in price but after all it does not make sense if the content can not be found by other researchers.

I am pleased that you got it fixed and it did not need Tribalpages Support's help after all.

Thanks, however, it would be great if the support team would look into the issues with their Robots.txt file ...

Hi Claus,

The update to your robots.txt is common to all websites at tribalges.com. The file is generated based on your website settings. We are in the process of testing the fix to the robotos.txt. Since the change is global, if we make a mistake, Google will have indexed private information from websites where the owner did not intend to. Once Google has indexed a site it takes a while to undo it.

Yes, website administrators are supposed to secure their sites with passwords. Google cannot get past the password page. However many administrators neglect to secure their sites and it is our duty to make sure that their information is not available on Google or other search engines.

Once we are confident of our fix to the robots.txt we will put it into production. We apologize for the delay.

Thank you very much for your explanation.

If I had that already many weeks ago when I first raised the issue I would have not gotten so annoyed about the seemingly not reacting support team.

However, this explanation makes me happy enough to renew as I am very happy with Tribalpages altogether.

Anyway, communication is a key factor to good customer service.

Kind Regards,

Claus Kazmaier

In the meantime, Claus, you can add appropriate text (i.e. the main names you are researching) to your home page which the google crawler DOES seem to index. Particularly if you "Add URL" to google yourself.

But this may have changed if TP have added the robots.txt blocking instruction to the home page.

Also be aware it seems that TP very occasionally submit to the search engines (as promised) limited lists of names of deceased persons. I have been pleasantly surprised to find a google result which points back to my homepage, but not to the actual page.

But I share your disappointment on this issue, and commend you on your patience with this forum.

Another way you can get a presence in the search engine results is to copy a report generated in tribalpages, and paste it onto your own webpage that you can easily set up in say, google sites. From there you can then link back to your tribalpages site.

Again you'll probably need to "Add URL" to google (even though it is a google site!)

Thanks David for the advice.

I probably will try the report idea ...

For over 18 years, whenever I have tried, I have NEVER received an answer to any attempt to "contact us". Now I am getting notices from other users having the same issue. We notice that TP knows our email addresses when it comes to renewing, and sending them money!
