Please see the thread below about the "about" section on Karina's Ancestry.

I can type something in, however visitors can see nothing in this section. I have removed all privacy markers and still all it says is "Please sign in to see more".

For free websites we do not show the about section unless the visitor is signed into the website. We have been having issues with spammers creating websites and placing ads in the about section.

How can a visitor sign in when there is open access and no "sign in" exists?

This so-called security issue is not mentioned anywhere.

I appreciate your problem but you have now created a problem for your customers.

Hi Tribal Support. I really cannot see the point in this.

How do I find or see all these FREE SITES, to read the Advertisements?, it is impossible.

Also as Advertisements could be placed into Stories and as the Story list is not in the ABOUT ,it would be so simple to put a list of Advertisements if required on the Home Page.

The same goes for your LINK section.

I suggest that you leave well alone, and revert back to as it was

All the best

Hi Les,

The ads were never intended for humans to view. Spammers create websites, put their text with keywords in the "About" section and submit it to Google for indexing. This would make Google think that those keywords were important because a website on tribalpages has them. Also, we found some spammers insert malicious javascript that would redirect the page to dubious sites. This discredits TribalPages and we get blacklisted by search engines.

Yes there are other ways they can do this (like Stories) but it would take some knowledge of using TribalPages to do that. If we find Stories being abused we would be forced to put that behind the signin page too.

Thanks Tribal Support, I thought that you meant the advertising that was going on with the Forum entries.

You seem to have got on the top of that.

My apologies
