Publishing/GEDCOM Questions

I currently publish a family tree (which I maintain & create from within Legacy software) on my website. I have two concerns, 1) access by the general public to names, dates, etc (identity theft) and folks being able to find data within my tree via Google searches. I asked Legacy support if there was a way to address those problems. They recommended your site. I see that I can upload a GEDCOM file to your site & create a family tree, sharing logins & passwords to limit access. Couple quick questions:

Will the public be able to find data within my tree on your site via Google searches?

Is there a way that I can export a GEDCOM of my tree on your site to my local PC, keeping an updated version in case I would ever decide to discontinue publishing my tree on your site? I can't imagine why I'd do that, but I'm not willing to give up ownership of data that I've created/maintained for ~15 years.

Are there any hidden costs for publishing a family tree w/ login/password allowing family to view/update information & upload pictures, etc?

Thanks in advance for your help!

First off I would advise keeping your master on your home computer and updating your Tribal Pages tree from it and keeping TP as a backup should you lose your data at home..

I have had trees on TP for over 12 years and I find this method works very well. To download a backup gedcom you will have to have a fee paying site I believe. And there is a cost if you want to add more than 50 pictures to your site.

I create my gedcom at home and privatise all living people at that time - I allow living names to be visible after login - but I never put up dates online - if it is not there, it can't be copied.

My TP trees show up on Google searches and I have gotten a lot of contacts.

If you have any other questions use the link and contact me

So question, if I enter info on Roots Magic, I can then copy a Gedcom file to my Tribal page so to keep the updated family tree info there should my home computer have a melt down?

This is so old, but... I suggest using the free version of pCloud to back up the gedcom from your PC.
