I have three (listed with you), and keep them All Private. I give a Password to each person that I allow to view each tree, and change this Password each time I allow anyone to view them.

My Question is: Is there Anyway Possible to Keep a person that I let view the Tree, from copying it from your website to their own Computers? I have found that some people are copying my Tree and them posting it onto Ancestry or other websites. WHAT IS THE USE IN PRIVATIZING A Tree and Paying you money for it, if this is going to continue to be a problem?

I would also like to know if I have you make a CD or DVD of my Family Tree for me, if it will be able to be copied by anyone else if sent to them. I am putting this Family Tree into Book form, and do not want it printed or published before my book comes out.

Thank you,

If anyone has the access code to view your tree, they will be able to copy the information and repost it anywhere on the internet. The only way you can prevent this is to keep the access code to yourself. You can put all sorts of copyright warnings on your site, but they will usually be ignored.

The same goes for photos. If they can see a photo on their computer screen, they can copy it and post it anywhere else they wish. There is nothing that you can do to stop this.

The DVD provided by TribalPages can also be copied by anyone who has it in his possession.

The basic rule is: if you want to keep something private, DO NOT POST IT ON THE INTERNET. Once you have posted it, anyone with access can (and probably will) copy anything they see on their computer screens.

I thought this was the case, but thought I would ask anyway. Don't understand why they do not make DVDs with a break off tab, like they did with cassettes, so people cannot copy them.

That is why I have made my trees Private, and give out only Passwords to very few (and a different Password to each person). I give it to only those that I can trust now, give them 24 hours to look at the tree, ask them to not copy and post anything to Ancestry or anywhere else, and have had a lot more luck by doing it this way for the past 5 years or so.

Thank you for your answer so quickly.
