My thoughts are that there is so much incorrect information being spread around in FAMILY TREES in Family History Sites that you cannot take anything for granted, Check it all out yourself. Actual births, death and marriage records. Don't just rely on other persons trees in Ancestry, My Heritage, Tribalpages etc. I think everyone researching family history has found false data in trees. Probably a few errors in my tree so I am always more than happy if someone can point these out.

What concerns me the most is sites such as My Heritage in which data from trees is being merged right left and centre. I was given a gift of a platinum subscription for My Heritage nine months ago. It has three months to run but in that time so many errors in trees have shown up and have been merged into other trees that I hate to think what the situation will be like in the future. So much family history is being recorded incorrectly.

On the other hand Ancestry and My Heritage have data other than just family trees and this can be useful. (Some of this is also available from free sites as well. eg Family Search.). Keep in mind that subscriptions can be expensive. Ancestry and My Heritage can be useful for making contact with distant unknown relations and some will have accurate data. Also anything we can pass on to enable relatives to amend their trees is good.

I will not comment on the DNA as I will not get a test myself. Don't think I will learn anything worthwhile from a test but could be useful for some persons.

Having said that - the historical records can be very good if you can view the document.

I always start with Family Search - which is free and ,in my opinion, usually has the best transcriptions which are the basis for the search indexes.

THen I go over to ANcestry, My heritage or Find My Past - I don't find the same quality control on the transcription process on these sites but the ability to view the record does help. They have rights to some images that family search doesn't

All of these paid sites are available for viewing at a family history center - so if you have one near you - no reason to pay a subscription.

Second solution of downloading both trees and merging as one and then uploading the new gedcom is over my pay grade!

Just noticed your message. First thing that crossed my mind is that you appear to be trying to put a link from a living person in a tree to another site. Not sure if that can be done where living persons are private. That is presuming your site and your daughters are set up that way. Just a thought I don't know if that is the reason.

I once put a link on the home page of a free site to go to my main paid site. That worked well. Not done from an individual but just a site to site.

Another suggestion to link sites is for you to put your daughters site in "useful links" on home page and she does the same for your site. Here again it is not going to an individuals notes but just site to sight. Privacy will be as has been set up by you both.

I was able to put the link in the notes section and it directs to the other person's tribal pages site. Both sites are private for family and password protected but it seemed to work.
