Gedcom imports and Notes

My working trees are on Ancestry but every so often I load the trees to Tribal Pages because there are useful functions here that Ancestry does not provide.

The TP trees are also useful for people wanting to see my info but who do not have subscriptions on Ancestry.

At some point in the future, I will likely use TP as the main hosting site for my trees - instead of Ancestry.

To that end, I need my TP trees to include the same info as my Ancestry trees. And right now they are not doing that.

For example, how does the TP system decide which Notes imported with a Gedcom get included on the profile pages? Notes from Birth, Death, and Burial are included - but not Notes from Marriage. Also, it seems to include random Notes from custom events - but not all of them - and I can't see the pattern.

An example is in the link below - you can see that notes are included in that Profile for Birth,Death and Burial and then some random notes for custom events - Cenotaph and Other (which is actually called Military Awards on Ancestry). But the Ancestry tree also has notes under Marriage and Military. Those don't appear on TP. I tried setting up my two free custom events on the settings page but that doesn't work.

Is there a way I can set up the TP trees to include everything that is in the trees at Ancestry?

Right now I am just using free sites. Is an upgrade necessary to get the full picture?

Thanks!

Hi Sharon,

We will take a closer look at your Gedcom to see why the Notes that you mentioned are not importing. Upgrading will not help with this issue.

I assume you are either taking the gedcom directly from ANcestry or from Family Tree maker. One of the biggest problems is that both of those DO NOt produce a 'standard' gedcom.

I would suggest obtaining another software ( Legacy, Roots Magic, ANcestral Quest all have free versions and accept an FTM gedcom) Then load your gedcom into there and see if you need to tweak anything - then create a new gedcom and load that to TP. I have Roots Magic and my only real problem is that for some things I have more sources than TP allows.
