Hi Gordon, no need to delete if you do not wish too, as you can overwrite the original. As your site seems to be a FREE site, I would if I were you start a new FREE Site from the GEDCOM from your Laptop. You can then check the two, and then if your happy with the New one DELETE the Original.

Save your LAPTOP TREE into a GEDCOM into a FOLDER on your Laptop. Then open a NEW FREE TREE on Tibal Pages, and go to EDIT for uploading your GEDCOM from the folder.

It does not look as if you have any photographs on your Original, so no worry

HELP Les

Just logged on to import a new up to date gedcom file, noted that the info said that the new file would overwrite the current info, as far as could see it uploaded OK but when I look at my Parr family tree it only shows reference numbers. So do not know what is wrong !!. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Gordon, I notice that you have now TWO trees the same.

I did Suggest that you do the following. It seems as if you did not do this

You should still have your ORIGINAL updated one on your LAPTOP, that you can see correctly in that program ( Not TP).

Save it again for UPLOAD but ensure that it is for a GEDCOM, and again UPLOAD to a NEW FREE SITE on TP.

Do not worry about the amount of FREE SITES as you can always DELETE them.

Regards

Les

Hi Les.

I did, as far as I can see, all that you told me and again it returned numbers on my TP pages.

I saved my Legacy file to a "temporary" file on my laptop, and uploaded it into TP as a new family page. Before I pressed upload, it showed that there were "1753" amount of names and 13 families. I pressed upload and yet again when the file opened it only returned numbers were there should have been names of family members.

Am I still doing it wrong, which I do not think I am, or is there some small thing I'm missing ?

Thanks Gordon

Hi Les

Now then Les it has done it finally, but with your help I have learnt a little more, about exporting Legacy.

Because of the amount of information which Legacy has the potential to hold, the likes of family notes and other bits and pieces it, as far as I can see, is not able to export it all to another site, unless of course it is being exported to another Legacy software holder.

It tells you in the Help Files to only export as a "LDS Template Ready" file, as it always seems as I have found, to return the wrong information if you don't.

But also for your information, when it is saved prior to exporting, lets say in a temp file on your laptop, it automatically gets a *ged extension behind it.

So alls well that ends well, at least you will be able to inform others, as I can see that you are always helping others like me, on how to overcome a Legacy issue in future. Thanks again, no doubt speak with you again. Gordon

Thank you Gordon, for the prompt answer. So pleased for you.

I used to have most of the Family Tree sites on my PC but at the age of 87 I found that I was getting too involved with them, and as I do not do a lot with my TREE now, as family have mostly died to get information from.

Have a look at my HELPFUL site and possibly give me your VIEWS.

I knew that with these Programes there are different ways to SAVE a GEDCOM, but could not tell you the correct way.

Regards

Les
