Rotated pictures

I have uploaded pictures that are in portrait mode on my computer but they appear in landscape mode. the properties of the file show height greater than width. If I rotate the picture so it appears in landscape mode on my computer and upload to TribalPages it is in landscape mode in the other direction. When I rotate it back and upload it now appears in portrait. If I edit the original picture, rotate it and rotate it back and save it on top of itself it appears correct on TribalPages. I have no problem with landscape mode pictures.

Hi Ronald, properties will always show the HEIGHT before width in its TEXT, and this is just reading your pgotograph as it is in Tribal Pages.

Simply find two photographs one in portrait and one in landscape, on yor PC.

Ensure that they are correct as you want to view them. Do not do anything else to them, but just upload to Tribal Pages.

I believe then that you wil find they are correct, and that on your earlier efforts the culprit is youself.

Some pictures that appear in portrait mode still are in landscape mode after uploading. I looked at the picture information with Corel Paintshop pro and found in the EXIF information the orientation of these pictures was Landscape(top left). Changing this to Portrait(top right) and re-saving the picture fixed the problem. The pictures appeared in portrait on my computer and after uploading to TribalPages.

Hi Ronald

EXIF is the Information that is attached to the original photogaph, giving all the details of how the photograph was taken.

Altering the orientation or size or whatever in Paint Shop, does not alter any of this information.

So if you change an orientation of Landscape to Portrait or Visa Versa in Paint Shop the deatails EXIF do not change to suit this.

You have to ensure that the Photographs you UPLOAD to TP, are the correct ones, as possibly you are altering the orientation in Paint Shop and not saving correctly to upload.

.

Nothing wrong with Tribal Pages as it can only show what you UPLOAD.

Hope that this makes sense

Ronald, as I cannot see your Folder, I would suggest that you look to see if you have saved this correctly in PORTRAIT in your FOLDER before UPLOADING it or have you the photograph in your FOLDER twice Landscape and Portrait.

Othewise why not send me the photograph as you have it in your FOLDER by e-mail,and let me check.

e-mail address is on my LINK BELOW.

Regarding EXIF tis is only applicable to te original photograph. It is like a passport with all the technical ajustments and settings from the camera

I would be pleased if you e-mail me.

Hi Ronald, just checked your site, and this picture was definitely uploaded as a LANDSCAPE from your PC or Laptop.,

not a Portrait.

Hi Ronald, as I mentioned at the outset, you have been uploading incorrectly.

EXIF has nothing to do with this, as what you see is what you get. You should correct the photograph first before uploading.

If the photograph that you see is upside down , inside out, or whatever , that is what you get, unless YOU CORRECT IT FIRST before UPLOADING.

Thanks for the e-mail, which I have answered, explaining EXIF and how to UPLOAD.

Regards

Les
