Hi All,

I am trying to enter-in an illegitmate child to someone on my Tree. I've tried 2 ways, but no success.

The problem is, that the Mother married after the birth of the child and I can only seem to arrive to where the child is assumed to be the child of her subsequent husband.

(1)I have entered the Mother's name - then added a son to her only.

(2)I have entered the child (as a new person) but linked it to the Mother's name because the prompt asks whether this new person is related to an existing member.

Either way, the child (even though it has a different surname) shows incorrectly as a child of the wrong Father.

Hope that makes sense!

Thankyou, Marjery

Hi Marjery, I take it that thee are two Husbands. Have you corrected this firstly in your Tree, and then in the CHILDS NOTEs you can state fathers Name.

Can you make it clearer how many in this TWO HUSBANDS ? one CHILD..

Hi Les, no there is only one husband, he was already linked to the child's mother, prior to me wanting to enter-in her illegit child. I will try what Pauline suggests I do.

Many thanks, Marjery

Hi Marjery and Les

Sorry to barge in to this thread, but I've had to do this several times in my tree (!)

The first thing you have to do, in edit, is add the putative father of the child to the mother. If you know his surname (the child's surname?) as the mother's partner. If you don't know his first name, just call him Mr, or even Mr Unknown it you're not sure.

You should then see 2 boxes below the mother's name, one saying '(Mother's name) and (Partner's name)'s children, and the second saying (Mother's name) and (Husband's name)'s children. Just add the child's name under the right choice.

I hope this makes sense.

Hi Pauline, similar to what I was going to say, other than find out if one of the Names is the Father, or if there was another one.

All the best

Hi Pauline, Thanks for your suggestion. The name of the child's father is unknown. I will try to follow your advice and see how I go with it! Thankyou.
