I have a Joseph Thomas Fox born in 1839 in Bermondsey, London, England.

I am seeking the names of his parents & any siblings.

Grateful for any assistance.

I cannot see the birth registration of any Joseph Fox in Bermondsey London around 1839 nor any person living in London with that name and around the correct age on any census. There are 2 or 3 Joseph Fox of the correct age born in London but all with places of birth North of the Thames.

If you can give a little more information about this person, such as where he was living in the UK at any time, who and where did he marry, his occupation, etc., it may be possible to identify the person that you are seeking. The only clue that I can see is that a John Thomas Fox married in St Georges Stepney, in 1859, possible partners being a Fanny French or a Marie Sullivan.

Thank you for the extra information, although this has still not enabled me to find any trace of his birth in the Surrey area of London or of him prior to the 1861 census entry. I can only think that he was registered under another name, possibly his mother's surname or perhaps as Thomas and not Joseph.

There is a Thomas J Fox age 2 living in Lambeth in 1841 and age 12 in 1851, his father's name is given as James in 1841 and John in 1851, so perhaps this family liked to alter there first names?

I think that the best way for you to solve the problem is to purchase a copy of his marriage certificate, which should give his father's name and occupation, providing he knew who his father was. I assume that his wife was Rebecca Dark and the marriage took place in the West Ham district, December quarter 1862, Volume 4a, Page 39. Those details should enable you to buy the certificate online direct from the General Register Office.

It seems to be another mystery why he should marry Rebecca in West Ham, Essex when he was living in Luton and she was born in Wiltshire and was living in Nottinghamshire in 1851.

Robesur, Yes, I agree it is a bit of a mystery and quite a challenge.

Hello Brian

Thank you for your interest.

I know very little abt. Joseph Thomas Fox other than date of birth, his wife's name & his children.

They were all born in England in the Luton, Bedfordshire region. This is from 1881 England Census.

One of his sons, Alexander Joseph Fox b.1863 in Luton, emigrated to Australia as a single man(not sure of date). He married in Victoria Australia 1890 & died in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia 1943.

I would like to trace the Fox ancestors.

I am hoping that we have a thread here.

This is all I can tell you regarding the English side of the Fox family.
