Some members may find the related link, as below, to GenealogyInTime Magazine of interest. The link I have shown is page 2 of their article which lists their top 100 family history sites. If you click back to page 1 you can read how this list was selected etc.

I am not suggesting that any one of the top 100 is better than another. It depends on what one is trying to find and of course personal requirements and preferences. My own opinion is that the numerical order, as listed, for a site is not a major issue. For example Ancestry appear more than once and there are many specialist sites.

That Tribalpages is in 50th place does not take anything away from this site as it has many features others ahead it it do not have.

I am sure that Robert Andrews (sorry mentioning your name Robert but I could not resist) will think that TNG should be in the first 100 and if that is what he considers is best for him then Robert, no doubt, would place it number 1. The point I am making is, choose what you consider is best for your own needs and don't decry the others.

This link is very useful because shown against each of the top 100 sites is a direct link to that site. I suggest you save the list and you will have a quick link to all the top 100.

If anyone would like to put a "TOP 50 emblem" on their own home page you can get the html code from the related link as below. I have done this myself.

I think it is great that Tribalpages are in the top 50 as some of the sites ranked above are repeated more that once (Ancestry sites) or are specialist sites)

Congratulations Tribalpages.

Hi Alan,

I just came across this post that you presumably posted some time ago.

You are a bit of a numpty though. You are comparing apples with pears. That TP comes 50th in a list of popular sites, does not surprise me, it has thousands, maybe tens of thousands of members, whose individual websites are all encompassed within, www.tribalpages.com/individual site name, just like Ancestry or FMP trees are.

TNG is a dynamic database that enables you to have your own hosted website and domain name; mine is www.ourancestralheritage.com My registered family members total about 20 and I get a few hundred clicks a year. So I'm never going to get in even the top 10,000!

However, it has produced new contacts for me from distant cousins, who have simply Googled the name of one of their ancestors, who happens to be in my database.

Please do have a look at it.

I still use TP for my single Andrews line and it is fine for what it does and I do not denigrate it but I prefer the TNG set up for my 'all lines' tree. Once you understand how it works, it is far more flexible. It can even be incorporated into Wordpress if you want, although that is a step too far for me, personally.

Les dismissed TNG as 'just a database' without really investigating the power of it. But then maybe his needs are different to mine. His site on TP is clearly in loving memory of his dear departed wife, rather than a genealogical history record, of his ancestral lines. Mine is an expanding record of my ancestors and cousins.

Anyway, I trust that you and Les are well and I wish you a Happy Christmas and a prosperous 2019. I have always been grateful for the assistance Les gave me in HTML lessons, which have stood me in good stead.

Best Regards
