I have an Alice BUDD, whose marriage to Joseph William HUMM was registered at Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK, in the June quarter of 1912.

I would appreciate any further information about Alice

Thank you

Ted

Alice Budd did not marry Joseph Humm in Cambridge but in the West Ham district of Essex/London in June 1912, 4a, 280.

On the 1911 census there is an Alice Budd, age 17, born Bermondsey, who is a stepdaughter of a George & Frances Parmenter at 273 Sherrard Road, Manor Park. In 1901 a 7 year old Alice, is the daughter of a John & Frances Budd at 157 Strone Road, East Ham.

I cannot see a birth registration for an Alice Budd but there is a possible marriage between a John Budd and a Frances Leach in the West Ham district, Dec.1894, 4a, 59 and there is a birth registration for an Alice Leach in Poplar, Sep.1894, 1c, 1013 and another in Camberwell, March 1892, 1d, 853. The latter seems a bit early, but would be correct for a Bermondsey birth.

You would need to purchase the various certificates to confirm whether my suppositions are correct or not. The marriage of Alice will give names of her parents so purchase that first, if I am correct then buy the John and Alice one then perhaps one or both of the others to confirm that Alice is either their child before marriage or maybe she has a different or unknown father.

You have gone to a lot of trouble on my behalf and I appreciate the marriage correction. It looks, at last, as though I have something more to get my teeth into.

I thank you. Ted

Just realised that I gave incorrect information in my last message. Alice's marriage certificate will not give details of her parents, only her father's name and occupation. This should be sufficient to confirm that she was the daughter of John & Frances Budd, but as there is some doubt about her birth it may not. I had been looking at Australian Marriage Certificates just before I wrote which do give both names and forgot that this is England, sorry.
