My Aunt died in the year 2000 at Hucclecote , Gloucester and we collected some of her personal effects from a local solicitor. These had been rescued by their clerk from a rubbish skip used for the house clearance.

When we got around to examine them we found that amongst them was around a couple of hundred old photos that had been mixed in by accident. They date from the mid Victorian to the early 1960’s. Eileen Simms is one of the post war ladies and probably the lately deceased in Glucester. The solicitors office could not help us tracing the family.

They have no connection whatsoever with our family but someone would treasure them.

Assumedly they belonged to someone who died around the same time in the Hucclecote area of Gloucester A lot are from the mid/late Victorian period many have a 20th century Royal Navy connection.

The names on the photographs are largely Wells, Knott and Simms.

There is a press cutting for the marriage of Mr Mathew Wells of Fern Bank,Sale to Helen daughter of Captain W Knott of Warrington , late 52nd Light Infantry.

James Simms was a Royal Naval surgeon in the1891 census.

The locations are Gloucester, Dublin, Belfast, Richmond, Warrington, Sale and Epsom.

There are several photos of family members in the RN.

If anyone can help me put these family memories into the right hands I would be very much obliged. If they would respond to this post then I can supply more detailed information.

Can I suggest that you post this on a Facebook page called Genealogy Addicts UK & Worldwide. They have only been going since April of this year and already have 3,000 members.

If you cannot do this, with your permission I will do so.

Eileen if you would please post this on the facebook page you suggest that would be lovely. I am afraid that I have no connection whatsoever with facebook; tho it is something my grandchildren would like to change!

Two points.

1. Perhaps you would add a precis of the following:

I am nearly 100% certain that the lady who died in 2000 in Gloucester who was the owner of the photographs was one Eileen Olive Sims who was born in 1912. As the photos were thrown into a skip by someone clearing the house I can only assume that she had no relatives left locally. Such a shame as the pictures show, amongst others, the classic crinolinned ladies outside country houses, a naval frigate from the 1800's that one of them commanded.Generally a monied family.

and 2.

how would people on the facebook page reply? via yourself or tribal pages or would you want my email adress?

Please also correct my spelling of Sims, one m not two.

Thanks for the offer

Kind regards David

(strange that the lady is an Eileen too! )

Hi David - So as not to misquote or misspell anything I am going to copy and paste both of your posts.

People will be able to contact me through Facebook. If you would contact me through my Tribal page, click on the link below or the house icon, then click the link on my home page. That way we will be in contact should anyone respond - that make sense?
