To all the wonderful people that help us out with our genealogy problems a Very Happy New Year to you all.

I have a Ann Wood born in 1805 in Stokenham, Devon and I am looking for her parents. Her siblings were Ann, Mary, William, James, George and Elizabeth. Would anybody be able to help me in finding them.

Thank you very much

Regards

Colleen

Hi Coleen what part of Devon in particular are your interests? I am in North Devon and may be able to help if local.
Hello Glenda

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my query, All I have on Ann Wood is that she was born in Stokenham

in Devon.

In 1841 Census she was 36 yrs old.

Ann was 65 yrs old in the 1871 Census and a widow. Her granddaughter Emily 16 was living with her.

Archive reference: 4074A/PR/1/5

1871 Census Ann was a Widow and 66 yrs. old. Living with her was her daughter Caroline, unmarried, aged 26 yrs and working as a Plain Worker.

I would also like to have some in formation on Emily and Caroline. Ann Wood was my great great great grandmother.

Thank you for all your help

Best regards

Colleen

Hi Colleen,

Is this your Ann? It seems to line up but has her listed as born in Plymouth, not Stokenham. (Forgive me if these names are interchangeable)

I have found that the best way to go through records is to begin with a certain point and work my way up. Most times, it is easier to establish who fits in where and how once I have information I can count on.

hmmm.... Well... Poot...

It seems that there are overlapping names that add confusion. So I went to seek the most unusual name 'NORISH' in combination 'WOOD' to see what I could find...

I think this is your Ann's Mother's record-- which you may be well aware of-- but just in case..

Question:

Are you kin to Craig Sheldon?

This is the person who established Mary Wood's memorial on this site and he only has 10 memorials which makes it more likely he would be a relation to those he created and posted.

On this site, he has an email address. Perhaps, you might email him and ask..? It could be that he has more information than you have.

Worst case, you find someone who shares a family link. :)

Perhaps there might be more links you could establish using this cite as well.

There are only 19 Norish surnames listed in England. There is a spelling variant- NORRISH- but less than 50 of these names are in this data bank.

Because I am not do knot know the area, it could be that you might be able to faster cross link the names with the areas. Because family members tend to lay together, it'd increase the likelihood that those around Mary Norish Wood would somehow be related. She is the only Norish or Wood in that grave cite.

I tried to look up JOHN WOOD. There were lots of them. So I narrowed it by putting his date of birth before 1800-- Which it would have to be in relation to Mary (b. 1766) and there are still 4 pages of JOHN WOOD names. I couldn't rule many out.

I attempted to put in St.Michael and All Saints-- There are 125 Grave yards in England with this name... That didn't help.

I tried to look up all grave yards in 'Stokenham

South Hams District, Devon, England'-- because that is where Mary Norish Wood is listed as located... I was flipped to a cite I did not recognize which wanted me hunt church records, not grave sites.

Find-a-grave still seems like a good choice for you since you wouldn't be geographically challenged... There are several WOOD memorials with information and pictures as well. This might be interesting to you.

I don't know if this helps any, but I wish you the best of luck, Colleen. :)
