Connections

I have dozens of sites that have names the same as in my site. I clicked on a few, some locked some not. No matter if locked or open there was a blank page.

What is the go. Do I have to do something else to see their trees? I understand the locked, but I can't even view the open sites.

"Connections" is almost useless. Time tribalpages did something about this feature and I am not the only one who has told Tribalpages Support about this over the years.

If you have a paid subscription site, you can use the Realtime Smart Match Technology feature. I have found this much better and useful on a few occassions. When you are in edit mode you may see an icon, as described below, against a name. That will take you to a link to other sites and to other matches as described. What you can view in other trees will depend on what privacy the site owner has set. I see you have full privacy for your tree so no one other than yourself and your guests can see anything other than surnames and your home page. If you want people to check to see if the are related to anyone in your tree you will have to change your privacy settings. You can set it so that only deceased persons details can be view publically.

Like Les has suggested in another message I suggest that you read the Tribalpages instructions before proceeding further. All the information is there for the reading.

I copied the following from Tribalpages information section.

Realtime Smart Match Technology

As you build or view your family tree TribalPages will match names against its various databases (Census, Death Records (SSI) and Family Trees). If one or more matches are found the smart match icon is displayed next to that name. The Smart Match results will display a confidence indicator with each match along with any details of the match

I must take back some of what I said about "connections". Sorry Tribalpages. It is not as useless as last time I looked. I had not checked it for a long time as it never used to work well for me. However I have just had another look and Tribalpgages have improved it quite a lot. I can now click on the + and get a comparison of a persons details in my tree with the other tree. That is now working well. Never used to work for me in the past.

I did click on one site that had 128 names indentical with names in my tree. Only two of these names out of 128 showed up. Don't know what happen to the remaining 126.

Another improvement, if I should call it that, is that each site now only appears twice. It used to be three times.

I must say however that "connections" is working far better than it was in the past and I will now use it again .

Can you tell me where to find Realtime Smart Match Technology in this site
Hi Valma,

The Realtime Smart Match Technology does not apply for free sites but it looks like you have a paid subscription. I have attached an image from my site which will help me explain.

When you are in edit mode and adding a person to your tree, or, if you are looking at someone when in edit mode in your tree, an icon will appear against the persons name if there is a matching profile in the Tribalpages Website.

In the screenshot that is below you will see that icon immediately to the left of the yellow square, blue, looking a bit like a fish. Click on that icon when you see it and matches will come up.

I don't think you will have any trouble following this but remember that it only applies when you are in edit mode.

The other thing about "connections" is that if you ever get any names to come up it seems much quicker to click on the Website link that shows up rather than go through the Tribalpages name comparison part of the program.

I hope it goes well for you. If you have any problems don't hesitate to post a message in forum. Someone normally tries to help even if you don't get a reply from Tribplages Support

Thank you, I get that blue link bit. It worked. And yes I do have a paid site.

What I am talking about is under Home Page there is a drop list. When I click on Connections in that list, a list of over 70 Family Tree Sites with names in common appears. When I click on an unlocked one or a locked one (some are locked) I get a blank page. Nothing happens or shows. Just a blank page. What I want to know is this, If you have connections in the site, why can't anyone use it. I am not the only one who is having trouble. I would love to approach some of these people to see if they have something that will help me further my research. Thank you for your response. It has helped.

Valma.

Tribalpages Support will have to answer that question for you. I would like to know, as well, why connections is so user unfriendly.

They didn't fully understand my last one. I had to ask again in detail about it.

Hi Valma.

Sorry I forgot to mention about the blank page. Maybe it is that you are not waiting long enough for the page to load. This has always been slow. I have just tried it to give you some examples. On one occasion the names came up reasonably quickly. The next time about 60 seconds and the third time 25 seconds. Until then all you see is the blank page. Give it more time and see if that makes a difference.

Could be that the trees with a lot of names take longer to load but I don't really know why it sometimes takes so long. This was another reason why I gave up accessing "connections" some time ago. Lack of patience in my case.

Thank you for your patience, Yes I think that I expect things to load up within seconds just anxious or impatient. I will try again. I have taken on board the suggestion of security. I have put it to Medium with only showing private for living. I am going to watch the video. I haven't been able to find the Smart Match thingy. It isn't anywhere that I can see. I will have a better look tomorrow, after I watch the video. I love this site and I have so much more to put in. I just wish that I could get more photos of my ancestors. I have a few, but not enough.

Cheers

Val
