I seem to be somewhat dense on how to transfer my GEDCOM from Ancestory to my Tribalpages. Can someone guide me a simple way?

Thanks,

Les,

My wife's cousin first used Tribalpages and assigned my wife's name (Janie) to become administrator to his site. That is how her name got on the web pages. She does not have that much interest in ancestry. Thank you for your assistance but one more dumb question?

How do I find out what my GEDCOM is with Tribalpages and Ancestry?

Hi Richard, just click on SEARCH in above .

Enter the details of yours or your wifes. e-mail address seems to work.

On Ancestry possibly it is the same

Les,

I may be somewhat dense. I am attempting to find out what my GEDCOM is for Tribalpages. If I am doing it correctly, it does not seem to give me the information I am looking for.

Thanks

Richard - do you have a genealogy program ( like family tree maker, etc.) resident on your computer? Using one is the easiest way to examine a gedcom ( .ged file). If you have a tree on Tribalpages, you can create a 'backup' file - this is in the form of a gedcom and can be saved to your computer.

After the same manner, if you have a tree on Ancestry, you can also download a gedcom from it.

These gedcoms can be loaded as a new file into a resident family program - it would be best to create two separately named trees. Then you can open them in two separate windows for comparison

Hi both.

Richard seems to be asking where the TREE is in Tribal Pages.

I have suggested that if he enters His or His Wifes name or e-mail address in SEARCH ( SEE SCREENSHOT ) it will now be found.

SEARCH is in the MENU BAR above FORUM entries.

When I enter either my name, wife's name, and birth date, It shows no record of information. My next dumb question, how can I have a family tree at both tribalpages and Ancestry websites without a GEDCOM?

You have to UPLOAD a GEDCOM from a Family Tree program that you have to have on your Computer as " MARIE "has mentioned.

but if you had found one in SEARCH on Tribal Pages you could use and UPDATE that one.

There was no need to enter all that you did in search.

My SCREEN SHOT showed an ARROW pointing to where you click and then you can enter e-mail or Name,

If I understand properly - Your wife was made administrator of a tree and you can't find it. Since your wife is living (shouldn't show in a search. I would suggest searching on the name of a relative that she and the cousin both have and who is dead.

Be prepared that the cousin may have made the site completely private and not marked the search box - in which case, you are not going to find it.

If you find the Ancestry Tree or the Tribal pages tree - it is relatively simple to get the gedcom (it's a simple download of a data file-list of words and numbers) - the problem is finding the tree. Can you ask the cousin?
