The last thing I want to download is a newsletter with added messages from thousands of TP clients.
I can't answer the other comment that you have received, as I can't understand how, or why anyone would be signed up to receive thousands of newsletters. One would have to be signed up to thousands of sites to achieve that!
why oh why the constant I will change. You know my opinion of TNG, but why not leave Tribal Pages now, if you are not satisfied. If you have paid a membership and still have time left, and you are upset, why stay. This seems foolish especially as you seem to be happy with TING.
The amount of Members that do complain about lack of response of Tribal Support are very very few, and mainly it is because of their individual requests for their sites, which is not needed by other members, and you cannot expect Tribal Support to do, for an individual.
If you check who these are, which I have done, it is normally the FREE SITES
When you purchase any program( Not only Family Trees), you get what you pay for, and surely you cannot expect, the one that you purchase to be then individually tailored to your own requirements.
It is up to yourself to look for ways to do this, unless it is a MAJOR fault in the program purchased.
Sometimes it just seems to be Nit Picking.

Les
Make the best of it, as it is, or don't bother to have a tree in the site. Of course anyone can make suggestions. However many of the suggestions are unreasonable and sometimes ridiculous and of such a nature that no family site would spend the time and money to implement the request. Often made just by one individual. Don't blame Tribalpges if you don't get an answer for this type of request. Try getting Ancestry and others to provide some of the features that Tribalpages have or implement some of the suggestions of little importance in their sites. Their response would be no different to what you get from Tribalpages.. Tribalpages offers a far greater opportunity to develop your own home page than any other family history program, and for free or at a low cost.
I could go on more but Les has said much of what I also think.
I was merely agreeing that some flexibility on the newsletter to add your own news, would be a great idea.
I do not hate TP. Where did you get that from? I have found another option (TNG) which was highly recommended by one of the Family history magazines last year and which, now I am mastering, suits my needs for the grand family tree of my children, better.
You have been very helpful with my tree on TP and adding a bit of animation etc. however, that is not what I want for the grand tree of all my children's lines. I want it more factual based with every fact, where possible, supported by a link to a source document. I know that I can do that on TP but TP does not for instance, link into Google Maps directly.
Nor can I add my own pages. Somebody asked on here recently about adding additional tabs (pages). You can't do it. On tNG I can (or will be able to once I have the confidence to change coding files.
TP is a very good programme and far better than what you get on Ancestry but where is the development and where is the support? Admin seems to be one person who is in the office every other week. You, yourself have berated them on several occasions. How long did it take to get all the rubbish advertising removed? When was the last time something was posted on the announcements page, about new and forthcoming features? On this Features Request page, I cannot see one response to a request, from Admin. If you didn't answer questions, they would go unanswered.
To summarise, TP suits my themed Andrews tree, with the sailing ship and the Onedin Line music. A bit of fun. But that is not what I want for my grand tree, I want a permanent historically accurate record and I have found a better alternative IMHO. Where I can also have my own .com website address.
But that is only my opinion, others will and obviously do disagree. Horses for courses, as they say.
I really hope we don't fall out over this, I have acknowledged many times, the sterling service which you provide, helping people but please accept that there are alternatives out there. It all depends what one is trying to achieve.
With best regards,
Robert
"I'm sure that it has been asked for by others but as usual there is no response from the powers that be, who seem totally disinterested in their customers.
Members do not answer either. Member " Marie " and I do not know the outcome of your PAGE pushed to the left. Was it your error, and you do not wish to say?.
You were not
"I was merely agreeing that some flexibility on the newsletter to add your own news, would be a great idea. "
You give the impression that just because you wanted an Animated Ship that I did off site, and added hidden Music with HTML, that this is all HTML does.
No Robert, you are quite entitled to do as wish, but like myself we are not privvy to the requests or complaints that Tribal Support get by e-mail and/or phone if any, only what we see on the FORUMS which , as your know is a very very minute portion of TP membership.
I just like to speak my mind, to clear the air. I am still awaiting an answer to two requests for help from Members on Feb 12 and 13 . If they answered I would then know I can suggest this to other members, the same as your page going to the left.
Still friendly Member

You seem to have great difficulty accepting my point of view on my preferences. I have no difficulty accepting yours. And I say again TP is a great product if it works best for you, then that is great but please don't decry others who have discovered an alternative which works best for them.
That's all I will say on the matter.
"You seem to have great difficulty accepting my point of view on my preferences. I have no difficulty accepting yours."
To each his own, and I have never mentioneed that I disagree with your choice of TNG, which is enteirely up to you., It is just the snide remarks about TP not answering, which most of us agree with you, but this is on major queries.
As fot HTML
"adding a bit of animation sailing ship and the Onedin Line music. A bit of fun"
Gives the impression that this is all it and I do.
Sorry that your Page is not working correctly, still believe it is your settings.
All the best
Les
I am going to be frank and say that the following statement, made by you, and resulting from a newsletter suggestion, was not in good taste.
"but as usual there is no response from the powers that be, who seem totally disinterested in their customers."
If you prefer TNG over Tribalpages, that is your affair. It just so happens that I prefer Tribalpages over TNG. I did look at TNG and had a free trial period but decided it was not for me. However I will not set out to rubbish that organization as you do about Tribalpages by making statements such as set out above.
It seems to me that it would be more satisfying for you, if you concentrate on TNG, which you prefer, and then maybe you will feel more happy than it appears you are at present.
Best of luck with TNG and I hope it works well for you.
If the mediators don't like my post, then they naturally reserve the right to remove it. Quite why you or Les feel that it behoves either of you to assume the role of site mediator, is beyond me.
Life really is too short for all this, you get on with yours and let me get on with mine.
If you really have so little to do, other than nit pick over comments made by others, then please start you own thread about it and stop hijacking other peoples.
I do note that neither of you has anything to say about the original request re, newsletters, which I do consider to be a very sensible one. Perhaps it is scheduled in the next software release, who knows because no one in the know will communicate with us. Even FindmyPast in the dark days of last April, responded to suggestions. Incidentally when was the last software upgrade, with new enhancements made?
"Not in the Tribalpages newsletter. If the Tribalpages program does not cover what I want, I look for alternatives myself before blaming Tribalpages for not having what I want as some individuals seem to do frequently".
I then went on to offer an alternative to members putting their own information in the Tribalpages generated 2 weekly newsletter.
Sorry you don't like my forum messages. Hard luck. I stand by what I have said whether you like it or not.
I am always prepared to objectively answer criticism of any of my messages and in this instance I feel quite justified in saying what I have posted.
Have a nice day.
I regularly update my sites by uploading new gedcoms that contain numerous merges - TP handles this better than any other program for hosting. I have personally checked with ANcestry, My Heritage and Darryl at TNG and none of them can promise the same results. In the long term, I'll die and my site will disappear from TP - I'm hoping to find an alternative before then.
Yes I can imagine what you are trying to achieve. In my own case I have Gedcommed my Ancestry file and uploaded that to TNG but I don't then intend continually updating it via further Gedcom transfers. The Ancestry tree will be ditched once I have been through every fact on my 2,500 names, checking sources and attaching links to source documents. The documents I upload to Google Drive and link to the fact via HTML, as many of them are substantial pdf files.
Any additions in the future will be added by me, one name at a time as that is the only way to maintain the integrity of the tree. I do not intend to integrate the trees of others via Gedcom mergers.I have done that in the past and errors have crept in, hence my root and branch checking of everything.
Photos are different and I will upload sufficient to the site for it to be interesting but not a massive number. I have just finished scanning every photo I have and what I might do is create albums for each family, again on Google Docs, and create a link to each family on my website, so that if users want to, they can browse an album and view a slideshow for a particular family.
I use Simply Hosting but I imaging that with your own server, you could host your own site. I have a friend who does that for his holiday business. There is also nothing to stop you backing up all the files to your own computer if you wished.
As for immortality, I suppose the only thing we can do is make sure that our user names and passwords are recorded in our Last Will and Testament and entrusted to someone, who will hopefully carry on our good work. At the same time leaving copies of everything to the local Record Office, Society of Genealogists etc, etc.
Good luck in your research.
Rob
Just to clarify my merges are on a one person at a time basis - not merging gedcoms-
I am doing a one name study and what often happens is an individual may marry multiple times - say a john pepler - in one census, I find a john with wife Mary and daughter, Ann. Next census I find a John with wife Elizabeth , daughter Ann(same age as the previous) and son William.
When I find proof that this John married twice - first to a Mary and secondly to an Elizabeth - I merge the two Johns that are separate individuals in my data base.
Just recently I have been sorting out about 1000 German Peplers that liked to marry their cousins. Tremendous number of merges on that one.
TP is the only hosting site other than Family Search that seems to be able to handle that kind of editing. Everyone else tells me to load a new tree.
However, I may have missed something in what you are looking to do as, in your previous message you said that Darrin had said that what you want to do may not be possible and if he says it's not possible, I'm not going to say it is. It's his software!
I guess the only way to know would be to try it out but as you can't test drive the programme unless you buy and install (ie there is no free trial version facility) that's difficult.
Some members may find the related link, as below, to GenealogyInTime Magazine of interest. The link I have shown is page 2 of their article which lists their top 100 family history sites. If you click back to page 1 you can read how this list was selected etc.
I am not suggesting that any one of the top 100 is better than another. It depends on what one is trying to find and of course personal requirements and preferences. My own opinion is that the numerical order, as listed, for a site is not a major issue. For example Ancestry appear more than once and there are many specialist sites.
That Tribalpages is in 50th place does not take anything away from this site as it has many features others ahead it do not have.
I am sure that Robert Andrews (sorry mentioning your name Robert but I could not resist) will think that TNG should be in the first 100 and if that is what he considers is best for him then Robert, no doubt, would place it number 1. The point I am making is, choose what you consider is best for your own needs and don't decry the others.
This link is very useful because shown against each of the top 100 sites is a direct link to that site. I suggest you save the list and you will have a quick link to all the top 100

If anyone would like to put a "TOP 50 emblem" on their own home page you can get the html code from the related link as below. I have done this myself.
I think it is great that Tribalpages are in the top 50 as some of the sites ranked above are repeated more that once (Ancestry sites) or are specialist sites)
Congratulations Tribalpages.

I did wonder if you would have another pop at me after I ignored your post from the other day as I thought that this thread is getting rather tiresome.
Your link makes interesting reading. However, I would have been very surprised if my website made it into the top 100 or even the top 10000. So far this year I have had 52 visitors to it, although to be fair I have not promoted it yet.
You are of course comparing apples and pears. TNG is website software which enables you to run your own genealogical website with your own domain name and hosted by whoever you choose. No ties to anyone. Most of the websites listed in the top 100 are commercial sources of information and services. Many of which I do in fact, use. Bizarrely there is no mention of the National Archive site.
It is also not a list of best sites. How can you say Ancestry is better than say, lost Cousins? Their offerings are completely different, so your little poke at me falls rather flat, I'm afraid.
I can highly recommend the Lost Cousins website. Peter Calver provides an excellent tool based on the 1881 census, to help you find unknown cousins, as well as producing a first class newsletter. Well worth signing up to.
Quite amusing of course that you should read GIT magazine. That made me smile.
Do you not think that you have exhausted this thread now? I mean, how many times can you reply to your own posts?
Mind you, I'm sure that we are providing some amusement to the reading public!
You are correct this time. The link is interesting. You are also correct that this thread is tiresome, as are you. You keep telling us about a site, TNG, which is only of interest to you and very few others. How boring for forum readers.
You mention Lost Cousins. I have been a member for some years. Their news letter is excellent. We agree on that. It is worth being a member for that alone. Unfortunately nothing else has come out of that site for me. Not to say that it would not for anyone else.
You smile because I read GIT magazine. You are being funny (peculiar ?).
As a final word on this subject, I think it would be nice if you apologise to Tribalpages management but maybe that is too much to ask.
I have tried to end this thread once but you seem to need the last word. The post you made was very interesting but you should have posted it as a new thread, which I suggest you do anyway, if you want other users to see it. People will have lost the will to live long before they reach it on this thread. If you do post it as a new thread, I wonder if you will resist the childish impulse to make a sarcastic reference to me in your post?
I have nothing to apologise to anyone for. The only criticism I have made of TP is the lack of response from admin to various requests from people for help or new features. Others have made that criticism in the past. And continue to make it. Why pick on me?
I still like and use TP for my themed site as I have said. I have tested an alternative. I like it. I have mentioned it. I will still use TP but I will also use the alternative for reasons already explained. That is allowed, neither programme insists on exclusivity.
Last June we both tested Family Historian 5 by downloading a free version. I didn't like it and reported the fact. You agreed with me. You said earlier that you had tested a free version of TNG and didn't like it'. That, you cannot have done as there is no free test version to download. You may have taken a cursory look at the examples provided on their website or even looked at mine, as I did provide the link but that is not the same thing.
As you seem so protective of TP and maybe have a close relationship with them, can you tell me when the map feature is going to work again? I have had a note on my site for months now saying that due to a technical error, it is inoperative. I also see that some rubbish advertising threads have appeared again on the Technical Forum. Why are they not immediately deleted? Probably because admin don't read the Forum. Why isn't some of the money which TP generates and it must be substantial put back into developing it further. Of course it may be behind the scenes but there is no communication. I have never see a posting on the Announcements thread.
As for actually putting a little sticker on my website saying 'top 50' or whatever, let's just say that I don't want to clutter up my web pages with meaningless information but if others want to, I will not criticise them. It is a personal decision.
Best regards for the future Al.
Rob
If I have kept you up at night working out ways of how to reply to my messages you can, perhaps, give up the futile attempts to justify your original message, and some of your subsequent postings, and get some extra sleep.
We will never fully agree with each other and I hope I don't ever need to correspond with you again. It reminds me of a saying, "not always right but never wrong".
Good luck with TNG.
Alan
Please don't reply

So I was wrong saying there was no free trial available and my apologies to you for that.
Just a shame that there is no link to it from the main site.
Not in the Tribalpages newsletter. If the Tribalpages program does not cover what I want, I look for alternatives myself before blaming Tribalpages for not having what I want as some individuals seem to do frequently. (not meaning you).
Maybe you could give consideration to the following. Click on my site icon as above and you will see how I have added a "latest news" section towards the top of the home page. I am not going to leave it there permanently but I will insert it when there is something new of importance.
If my family members go to my site home page when Tribalpages send out the 2 weekly newsletter they should see the "latest news"
The html code came from one of Les's past postings. Once again Les has been of great help. Thank you Les.
