I occasionally make a GEDCOM of my Tribal Pages site and upload it to the ancestry site. This works great to get my data out to more people. Is there also some way to transfer some of my nearly 2000 pictures on my Tribal Pages site to ancestry? I am concerned with what will happen to my website after I die. If nobody keeps it up, my pictures will not be available for anybody to see. On ancestry the pictures seem to stay there even though the submitter may be deceased. I am considering moving my pictures one by one to ancestry if I have to but would like to avoid that huge task.

Hi Robert it seems as if you will have to do this one by one.

Have you got these in a Folder on your Pc ( You should have done)

If not there is an easier way to do them one by one.

Open a Folder and Name it on your PC and leave it open.

Go to TP and go to photo Albums. Open the Album of your Choice

You will now see your photographs , but these will be a small size. Click on your first photo, and it will open Full size. Right click on this then select save as, and save it to your new PC Folder that will open up. When you click on Save the PC foder will close and you will return to the photograph.

You will see a Blue left and right facing arrow on top of this page under Tools and Edit, click on the right one which will take you to the next photograph and then do as before. You can keep on doing this for how many photographs that you wish, and it is an easy way to download to your PC.

If you have already got these on your Pc ( You should have done )there will be no need to do this.

Just try a few Photographs first.

Regards

Les

Thanks. I do have all of my TP photos plus others on my PC and in cloud storage.

Was hoping there would be an easy way to move all of TP photos to the correct spots on my ancestry family tree site the next time I make a GEDCOM. This is probably not the case so will have to work on that one by one.

Ancestry keeps your whole family tree including photos online after you die. Tribal Pages does not unless somebody keeps up your site. I am afraid that all of my thousands of pictures will eventually not be available for everybody to see. If I were starting over, I would use ancestry and add the pictures there.

Hi Robert, glad that you have them on PC.

Why worry about when you die. Enjoy life now. I do not believe anyone will ever keep on looking at our Family Trees to the amount that we do, and would not be interested in looking at thousands of photographs.

You started your site in June 2011 and have only had 524 Visitors. Unless anyone else is interested, you will find that the Tree dies with us

I doubt that you ever look at all the thousands of photographs yourself. Yes we put them on our Trees, and that is as far as it goes, as part of the Tree.

Ancestry only keeps things until it decides to get rid of them. Hundreds of people recently lost their DNA results when Ancestry took over the Sorenson project and then decided to dump the Y-DNA. THe raw data is now gone for good.

If you are looking for eternal- your best bet may be the Family Search Tree - it accepts photos, audio, stories, etc and also provides a historical record matching search as well as tree matching. ANd it is prefunded for transferring files to the next technology. They never discard anything.

It is a bit trickier to learn but handles bulk loads and has some facial recognition features. After a bulk load you can attach several pictures at once to an individual.

That is a good idea except it appears that the familysearch site does not accept a GEDCOM. I do not really feel like entering over 5000 names again and all of the data that goes with it.

Hi Robert, this from their site

Using FamilySearch Family Tree: A Reference Guide (October 18, 2013)

All registered users of FamilySearch.org can upload GEDCOM files for inclusion in the Pedigree Resource File. If you have access to Family Tree, you can also copy information from an uploaded GEDCOM file into Family Tree.

All the best
